CURRENT MISSION

The big goal is for my current feature film to be released all over the world. My small picture goal is to be grateful for each good day and be more accepting of each bad day.

ABOUT ME

Eclectic is the word that best describes me. My interests are so varied, as are my values and politics. I am educated, well-read and try to be aware and informed. I am a bit of a pop culture fan, partly because, as a filmmaker, I have to stay on top of trends. I'm a big social media user. Living sustainably is important to me. Having two careers means I don't have much of a life outside work, except on Friday nights, when all bets are off! Family and friends are important and I am lucky to have lots of both. I have a crazy dream of making lots of money from my films, buying a farm near Melbourne and growing my own vegies and livestock. (And an apartment in the city of course) It will probably never happen but it's fun to daydream.

PHILOSOPHY

It centres around three concepts: community, consideration for others (human and animal) and personal responsibility. Once those three concepts are in place, then having fun is also really important!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never couch-surfed via this service, however I've done it informally many times. As a multi-lingual traveller with friends in many countries I have been lucky to stay in the homes of people from countries as diverse as Germany to Japan. In turn I have hosted friends, or friends of friends, from China, France, the UK, the US, Japan, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, you name it.
One of my favourite stories is when I've hosted friends at my parent's house and my parents have kept contact with that friend longer than I have!

Interests

Aside from films? I am pretty curious about most things. Current interests include: indigenous (Australian) culture and history, World T20 cricket, the 2012 US election, shoes, climate change politics, good food, and yoga. Especially yoga.

It may be easier to list what I'm not interested in! Lol.
TV shows I'm currently watching: Breaking Bad, Dexter, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Community, Pushing Daisies, and Games of Thrones, amongst others.
Love all films, but especially Sci-Fi, dystopian future films (eg Looper), anything with a good script really.
Read some great books this year. Audrey Niffeneger's new book - Her Fearful Symmetry - stands out, although Time Traveler's Wife remains my favourite book of all time. Anna Funder's new book was also great - All That I Am - equally as good as Stasiland.
My music tastes are pretty mainstream. Currently listening to P!nk and Missy Higgins' new albums. Both are excellent. For something slightly different, Elbow's new album is good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one?! I spent a few days at an orphanage in UlanBaator, Mongolia and wrote an article about the politics of marginalisation and how this relates to Mongolian children whose parents aren't able to take care of them - for a Mongolian studies magazine in the U.S. That was when I had a train ticket booked through to Moscow and decided on the spur of the moment to go back to Beijing (where I had just been). Two years later I was still there....
