About Me

Hi guys! :)

My name is Katrin, I'm 20 years old and originally from Austria (it's that small state in the middle of Europe, not that big continent with the kangaroos :)

In July 2014 I moved to the States and since then I live in Boston. After I graduated from high school I decided that I wanted to take a "year off" before I start full time university in Vienna, Austria. So I became an Au Pair here in Boston, which basically means that I take care of kids in an american hostfamily. I also started to take some courses at Harvard University which is an amazing opportunity for me.

Because this section is called "About Me" I'd like to share some more things you may want to know about a person who might stays at your home, right?
I'd describe myself as open-minded, spontaneous, reliable (which I really have to be, I mean, I take care of 4 kids every day, 6 days a week..) and I'm pretty much an optimistic person (yep, my glass is always half full).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

New cultures and people from a different place have always been a fascination for me. I love to learn about different countries, their traditions and cultures, their food and everyday life - oh wait, right! That's exactly the reason why I came to Boston :) Couchsurfing is a great way to accomplish this without paying enormous amounts of money for a hotel. I mean, how often do travel plans fail because it's simply too expensive? Especially for young people, who haven't had a job so far but are sooo eager to go to a different country, couchsurfing is just an amazing opportunity.

In my opinion it is very important, that young people see more than their hometown/homecountry, break out of their normal daily lives, learn about different cultures, meet people from around the world and Couchsurfing allows them to do it.

Interests

I love to try out new things, explore new areas and cities, hang out with friends and travel the world. I love to do sports but at the same time I love to go out to restaurants or try out new things in my own kitchen.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all different kind of music. From Hip Hop to Rap, from Alternative to Indie.. I don't really have ONE favorite but here are some: Lana Del Rey, The Black Keys, Marina and the Diamonds, Jay Z, Kanye West, Lily Allen, Chiddy Bang, Ed Sheeran Florence and the Machine, Big Sean and so on and so on.

Couldn't remember one favourite movie right now, I love comedies and movies with a really good plot. One of my favorites of 2014 is probably Gone Girl, Wedding Ringers and This is where i leave you and an all time favorite is probably Inglorious Bastards.

Most of the books I read so far are in German, tho there are some in English too. I really like reading but right now I'm not too much into it, I guess.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I packed my "whole life" in one suitcase and decided to leave my "normal" life behind me and move to the States. What a wise and great decision.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think the great thing about couchsurfing is the exchange of culture. In an ordinary you check in, go to your room, and after your stay, you check out. That's it. If you use platforms like Couchsurfing, you meet your host, talk about your culture and he/she can share hers, can maybe give you some tips about the area. An important thing for me in life is to give and take. Is there a better thing than to make friends all over the world who will maybe later visit you at your home? Maybe - maybe not. So far I made a lot of friends during my stay in the States and I know that some of them will visit me, when I'll be back in Austria. I'm excited about showing them my country as they were so open-hearted about welcoming me in the US/in Boston.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can definitely share some of my travel experiences in Europe, the US and other places with you! Tell you about Austria, our traditions history, food or whatever you want to know. I'm, as I mentioned pretty open-hearted and I'd love to hear your opinion too!
I'll move back to Austria in the summer and my first aim is to get a flat. As soon as this is happening, I'd be more than happy to host people in Vienna too!
