Hi! I’m Katy!

For the last four years I’ve lived in Nicaragua. Mostly in Granada, but the last 3 months in a small fishing/surf village called Playa Gigante. I love nicaragua, but it’s currently in the midst of civil unrest and violent protests, so I went home to the USA and from there decided to come to Europe to visit friends on this side of the Atlantic! I spent summer 2016 traveling through Europe and had wonderful experiences with any of the couch surfers (hosts and other surfers) that I met. I also loved hosting people in Granada. I'd love to be able to help out a fellow traveler in need and met some really interesting people (including a couple biking from Mexico to panama! Wow!)

I love mountains and ocean, trail running (well, jogging) and hiking, basically all things outdoors. Me encanta hablar espanol y hace muchos anos estudiandolo, todavia estoy aprendiendo algo nuevo cada dia!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After visiting Cuba, I realized in addition to the incredible people, culture, and music, one of the the things I most enjoyed was staying with the Cuban people in their home. I had a better, deeper understanding of the Cuban culture from being able to talk to, stay with, and learn from my hosts. I'd love to experience every country this way.

Interests

Wandering round new cities without a map and engaging with locals for help, sharing wine and stories, hiking, smiling and saying hello to people and, basically, everything else. My sister and I have decided I'm a "new soul" which explains my insatiable curiosity about nearly anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If timing permits, I will happily cook a meal for/with you--though it will be meatless as I've been an on again/off again vegetarian/pescatarian for roughly 20 years.
