About Me
ABOUT ME
I love traveling, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I have had a long career as an elementary schoolteacher teaching mostly Russian and French. I enjoy traveling and immersing myself in the local culture. I have hosted three Rotary exchange students, 4 Katimavik (a Canadian youth program) students and some couchsurfers as well. During the year, usually from March or April until October or November, I often have volunteers who help me mostly with the garden. This means that I do not usually have room to host couchsurfer at those times. One of the reasons that i have volunteers and couchsurfers is because I love meeting people from all over the world. I live with my granddaughter (a preschooler) whom I adopted after her mother (my daughter) passed when my granddaughter was 3 weeks old. My husband is a retired accountant who loves running, riding his motorcycle and flying. I am a lifelong (second generation) vegetarian. I would appreciate any guests to cook only vegetarian meals while they are staying with me (no fish). I am allergic to perfume and cigarette smoke so would appreciate no cigarettes or scented products.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to travel and meet new people. I also enjoy traveling vicariously through the people I meet. I think that using couchsurfing as a guest is an excellent way to see the country through the eyes of a native. I have welcomed many people into my home and would like to try being a guest as well when I travel.
Interests
I love to garden, walk, read, x-country ski and ride my bicycle. I live in the country and have a dog that enjoys walks. My husband loves to run, ski, read and cycle as well. He's not a gardener. He likes to tinker in the garage and ride his motorcycle.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy a variety of music including world music, latin music and sometimes country music as well as blues and reggae, but am not particularly fond of hard rock. I like a foreign or domestic movie with a good plot. I read a lot of books on various subjects like health, travel and fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm raising my granddaughter who is truly amazing. I lived in Russia for a year during the communist era and traveled in many areas of the country.
