About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy life and take it all in...

ABOUT ME

Laid back guy who likes to explore. After leaving home to travel to other side of Canada to where I knew pretty much no one, I made a place for myself for a couple of years before deciding that I needed to get out of there and see some of the world while I was still young. In mid-2011, I took off on an adventure to Europe, South East Asia and Australia. I've been traveling with my fiance, Marlee, and we've been having a great time so far. We'll have been on the road for about a year when this trip is over, before coming back to Canada.

I'm a pretty quiet kind of guy (not talking wise), who prefers a night in with hours of conversation, a movie, or relaxing by a fire, rather than a night out partying. I don't smoke and I don't drink anymore. I love to get to know a city by just getting lost in it. It's one thing to just observe the sights, I find it's another thing to see the sights of the city itself.

While living and traveling, I'm pretty much always with my fiance, Marlee. You can see her profile here: http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/marleekaye/
It will give you a better insight to me since she's my other half.

PHILOSOPHY

Try to make it through life without any regrets. Don't think anyone can truly fulfill that, but can't hurt to try!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted people before, but hadn't signed up to the site at that point. Heard about this site and figured that this would be a great way to spread the favour and find places to stay when I travel as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted only once and have surfed a handful of times now. Looking forward to hosting again when I return from my travels and (hopefully) have space available for people to crash.

This to me is traveling. I much prefer to live with a local and learn about what it's truly like to be in that city. Hostels can be fun in their own right, but I'm here to travel, not live with other travelers.

Interests

Woodworking (carving and turning). Music (drums and guitar). Nature/mountains/camping. Conversation. Movies. Traveling. The world. Reading. Learning. Teaching.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Shawshank Redemption, Apocolypse Now, Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Dumb and Dumber, Billy Madison, A Map for Saturday, Beverly Hills Cop 1-3, Any Standup Comedy... The list can go on and on.

Music: Love rock (I should have been born in the 50's so that I could have been around for the 70's), love jam music (Phish is my top band), love a lot of jazz, and then an eclectic mix out of everything. My tops though (in no particular order): Phish, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Foo Fighters.

Books: It pretty much has to be non-fiction for me. The only fiction I've ever really enjoyed tends to center around distopic worlds (Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, 1984) or be centered in reality, but with a twist (Ishmael). I love biographies, especially music biographies. I love most things science related and many things atheist related.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess to date, my favourite thing that I've done so far would have to be diving in Thailand. Absolute blast. Earth is covered 70% by water, may as well expand my horizon and see both the underwater and overwater worlds.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: the little I know about cooking is always up for grabs. Same goes with wood working, construction, environmental science.

Learn: Anything and everything really. I'm not happy in a place unless I'm learning something. I'm always reading something or other, be it a book, a newspaper, a pamphlet, a magazine... I like to take it all in and then come to my own conclusions.

Share: life... experiences... laughs... smiles...
