About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see as much of the world as possible... and maybe learn a few things along the way.

ABOUT ME

After finishing university last May I decided it was time to see the world. So for the last six months, I have been living and working in Dublin, Ireland. I've had an amazing time here and am sad to say goodbye for, I have had the opportunity to make incredible friends with people from all over the world. I'm just getting ready to begin travelling around Europe and while I have never couch surfed before, I think it amazing way to build communities, make friends and experience a culture from a more local perspective.

PHILOSOPHY

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun."
- Chris McCandless

"There are places I'll remember,
all my life though some have changed.
Some forever not for better,
some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments,
with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living,
in my life I've loved them all."
- Lennon/ McCartney

"The term Walkabout comes from the Australian Aboriginal. The idea is that a person can get so caught up in one’s work, obligations and duties that the truly important parts of one’s self become lost. From there it is a downward spiral as one gets farther and farther from the true self. A crisis situation usually develops that awakens the wayward to the absent true self.

It is at this time that one must go on walkabout. All possessions are left behind (except for essential items) and one starts walking.

Metaphorically speaking, the journey goes on until you meet yourself. Once you find yourself, you sit down and have a long talk about what one has learned, felt and done in each other’s absence. One talks until there is nothing left to say — the truly important things cannot be said.

If one is lucky, after everything has been said and unsaid, one looks up and sees only one person instead of the previous two.”

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: probably too many to list here, Bob Dylan, Beatles, CCR, (I'm a big fan of music from the 60's/70's as a general rule, and classic rock).. Bob Marley, Kings of Leon, Ryan adams.. I also really enjoy acoustic music. Going to see live bands and concerts is a passion of mine.

Books: I've always been a fairly big advocate of reading. I enjoy books from academia/philosophy (plato, Foucault, Bauman, etc) but I also like to just read for pleasure altho its hard to think off the top of my head books I've enjoyed. I loved the Alchemist, Jack London, On the Road, and lately I've just been reading a lot of travel books in general.
