Chinzanso is a five-star hotel which is famous for a beautiful Japanese garden.
As I was wokring there, I got to make frineds with travelers from other countries all over the world.
By welcoming and seeing them off at the entrance, I decided to go visit Europe.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The purpose of this travel is to introduce Japanese calligraphy to Europeans who have never read or written Japanese calligraphy. If you would allow me to stay with you, I would love to share this ancient art with you as well.
Calligraphy is one of the most dominant traditional arts in Japan, much like classical music in western countries. I feel that Asian characters, called "kanji", are very complex and is able are express deep meaning in a single character. I am hopeful that you will like it.
Interests
I am interested in Japanese calligraphy. I spend at least 4 hours a week doing Japanese calligraphy. It makes me feel comfortable and relaxed.
However, to be honest, I didn’t like Japanese calligraphy that much when I was a kid. My mother is a calligrapher and she started teaching me when I was four years old. She was such a strict teacher that I had stomach ache when I wake up on Wednesday morning because I had a calligraphy class every Wednesday evenings.
After entering the university, I had a chance to teach Japanese calligraphy to one of my classmates who was born in Norway. He told me that he had a lot of fun and asked me critical questions about it.
He said, ''Thanks to you teaching me Japnese calligraphy, I understand Japanese culture a bit deeper now.'' I hope that the experience changed his view of Japanese culture.
This experience changed my attitude toward Japanese calligraphy.

When I was a university students, I worked at Tokyo Foundation as a research assistant. I joined VCASI project. (http://www.vcasi.org/en/) I launched the Ustream channel to broadcast the Foundation’s live seminars and coordinated live Q & A via Twitter. The program had more than 1,000 viewers on a real time basis. It was a great number at that time in Japan.
