About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To leave everyone I encounter just a little better off.

ABOUT ME

I'm a self-employed, white collar professional by day. The rest of the time I'm in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm casual, easy to be around, and love to show off the area.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm very experiential. People are more important than things. I believe the vast majority of mankind is good. Don't judge, be accepting. My fear is to be laying on my death bed, saying "if I had only tried _______" (fill in the blank).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted many times, but only couchsurfed twice. After a sixteen year hiatus I'm back on this site as of 2026. I love the philosophy behind couchsurfing, having made long term friends and helped good people see a part of the world they may otherwise not see.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, my CS experience has been GREAT! I'm looking forward to more.

Interests

Walking, Travel, People, Friendships, Business, Investing, being a great parent.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm fairly involved in film (as a filmgoer, not professionally) and so feel like I need to come back and fatten this out. But here are a few: A River Runs Through It, Godfather I and II, Matrix, Sideways (hey, it was filmed 20 miles from my house) and various animated stuff I watched with my kids when they were young.

My 'comfort food' movies include Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Fifty First Dates (most anything filmed in Hawaii appeals to me).

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty because it's essentially a travelogue.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love to travel to foreign lands and meet locals. Visiting Moscow in 1993 was amazing. Raising my two girls is definitely the highlight so far. Traveling Europe for two months in my early 20s was eye-opening. In the last few years I've spent much time in Italy.

Life is so rich how can you pick just one thing?

Teach, Learn, Share

Come visit Santa Barbara. It's simply beautiful, with no end of fun activities, whether you like art or the outdoors, hiking, surfing, wine tasting, shopping or laying on the beach.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you like walking, I walk 5, 10 sometimes more miles per day. There are some beautiful vistas in Santa Barbara. If you want to hike into the mountains behind my house, let's go! We can discuss restaurants, beaches, wine tasting rooms, art galleries (I'm definitely not an art expert), and pretty drives.

Or, if you want to discuss investing and business I've been at that since 1987 and always enjoy discussing that topic.
