About Me

Hello, hello! My name is Kyle (KD) and I'm just a Yank from Maine who has been traveling for the better part of a year. Mostly through Workaway. Trying to use CS more throughout my travels whether it be to grab a pint, find music events, catch a museum or just sit around and chat over coffee! Pretty laid back and up for jusssst about up anything. A big music enthusiast, and a drummer/percussionist, so anything pertaining to music I will be highly interested in. Enjoy the piano but have limited training in, so always trying to spruce up some of my abilities there.
Checked out of "office life" about a year ago to see the world and don't have too much of a long term plan currently. I feel Incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity this time in my life. Had a Workaway host once say how sometimes in life you have to find different "doorways" as much as you can to find where you need to be. Suppose one could say I'm looking for as many doorways as I can at the moment. Sometimes I can be quite reserved but if the right topic arises I may get a bit chatty. Like to fancy myself a very adaptable/friendly and a tolerant person. Most often in my free time, I am working on music, reading, or just wandering around and taking in my local surroundings.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Was recommended to try CS from a fellow traveler after hearing so many of their positive experiences. More interactions with "locals", or local to the area, the better I find. Thoughts were CS would also be a great way to meet new people during my travels, and to break up my workaway schedules if/when needed. Most likely if I have a Workaway host fall through, or in route to a new destination, this will be a backup for temp accommodations if need be. Hoping it can be useful for meetups as well as I hope to interact with new people from around the world when I have the time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too much music to list. Can find something I enjoy from almost any genre whether it's super esoteric or super-norm.

Films are pretty hit or miss for me but it's a medium I would like to try and learn more about. If I connect with the score that helps keep my attention.

Books: Lots of non-fiction for the past year but getting back into more fiction again. Open to read mostly anything so more recommendations the better :). Of the top of my head the one book which had the most profound impact on me was "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison. Generally tend to be drawn into more historically based reading but becoming more curious about sci-fi as of late.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hung out with Dave Chappelle! Well, maybe not that amazing but was pretty fun.
This past Summer Solstice I spent it at a celebration on the island of Ulva which was incredible.
As a kid I visited the house in Haight Ashbury where the Grateful Dead lived.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can provide good company and if by chance you need general assistance with something I'm happy to lend a hand. Wish my cooking abilities were something to behold but unfortunately that is not the case. I will look after myself very well so no pressure on your part to ensure I'm taken care of.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Like to think I'm good company as I am easy going, personable, and enjoy being helpful. Will always insist to do your dishes if there are any and am quite mindful of tidying up after myself. I can probably answer any question/inquiry to great lengths about why America is the way it is so feel free to pick my brain :p

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, England, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Scotland, Viet Nam
