À propos de moi
I'll be in Penang for the next few months starting June 21st. Place is too small for hosting but down to hang with cool people!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Open minded person, want to meet new people and hear new perspectives, I love to be outside of my comfort zone and do new things. Want to make friends and have fun during the short time that we're here.
Born nomad at heart. Love being on the move and have never liked to get too comfortable. I enjoy acquiring experiences while most other people want to acquire material goods. To me, human connection and novel curiosity are the two best things in life. And my current lifestyle is an attempt to maximise these two states of mind. Throughout my younger years I felt shackled and constrained by the environment that I've grown up in. Now that I am older and have freedom, I have been trying to dispell this negativity and live in line with who I want to be. That is someone who is open, compassionate and has a growth mindset. I have lived more in my (relatively) small time on the road than the previous 20 odd years spent tied to a small town. There were happy moments of course, but a prototypical modern life does not provide me with enough joy or satisfaction. Therefore I choose a life rich in experience and positivity instead of a life rich in material wealth.
Anything that is unique I simply need to try. Each new experience tells us something interesting and is a gift. It could be small like informing our personality, or large like telling us something profound about life in general.
I like to study life, prefer to stay mindful and in the present, always being keen to learn something new from someone. A particular fascination is speaking to researchers or educated people about their subspecialties. I'm always happy to meet folk who like to discuss abstract topics and ideas, those people are my kindred spirits!
I prefer to slow travel. I'm more interested in learning about the culture and history of a place than anything. I love to hear people's experiences and how culture and upbringing makes people who they are.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I am only on couchsurfing to make friends and have new and interesting experiences with cool people. I am happily in a relationship and have been for 3 years. I am not on couchsurfing to try and use it like a dating app like some guys are.
I also only accept friend requests from people I've met before.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Countries I've visited in order of visiting them. I have fond memories of each of these places and love to go through each slowly.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
Throughout my 1 year plus journey, I have experienced many different sights, things and cultures. I have slept in bus stations, internet cafes, people's homes, communes, kasbahs, even a church, konbini and school. I have seen many things, but above all met some really incredible people. I chase experiences, and try to push away idle comforts. Out of everything I have done, my fondest memories are usually the people I've met. So many temporary friendships, getting really close to people for a few days, weeks or months, only to then go separate ways and wonder if I will see them again.
I am a minimalistic liver, choosing to only own what I think I will need. Spare clothes, hygiene products, books for learning and enrichment, a journal for personal reflection and finally a phone for logistics and planning. I am a big fan of one bag lifestyle and ultimately seek to use what I've learned through this as an antidote to excessive consumerism.
I want to meet new people and have travel experiences outside of typical sightseeing.
I am a huge lover of deep and interesting conversations. I love to meet people whom I can learn from their experience, share me some interesting insights and who I can pick their brain. Meeting like minded people is good for the soul.
Centres d'intérêt
I love to learn new things and I will always try something I haven't done before. My biggest hobbies right now, other than long-term travelling, are reading, meeting new people, hitchhiking and listening to music!
I'm more of a dabbler. I could do better here by listing things that I don't like. most things in life are cool.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
These are my personal favourite memories that I've made while travelling!
Climbed a 3700m mountain as my first mountaineering experience.
Skydiving in Thailand.
Planning a forever trip in just 2 weeks, and making it work
Trying to push myself out of my comfort zone each day!
Taking part in a nude hypnotism
Trying ramadan with a Muslim friend in Morocco, taking part in prayers, ablution, fasting and finally visiting the mosque for Iftah prayers
Built a house by hand in Thailand
Charity work in Vietnam
Cycled around all of Taiwan. Loop complete apart from the northern tip!
Helped design an Escape Room in Taiwan
Never saying no at a chance to try something new
Hitchhiking across Japan. Meeting great people and sharing languages. Trying to break the monolingual curse (key word trying 😅)
Laughing yoga experiences
Taking part in a Jhana temple stay with monks
Living in a commune in the Sahara desert for 2 weeks. Hiking in the hills and being the only living thing (including plants) visible for miles.
Exploring abandoned villages in the Moroccan desert, lost completely to drought and nonviabaility of farming.
Balancing a maths degree with travel. Grinding an entire course syllabus in 1 month.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I can happily help anyone with their English skill if you want. I am a qualified EFL teacher with lots of experience. All I ask is that you share some interesting stories with me. 😅
Always wanting to learn, doesn't matter who from or what. Life is learning process and there is no such thing as bad knowledge.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
Firstly, I always believe in paying back kindness that is given to me. Anyone who is kind enough to do me a service, I will make sure to do them one in return. Whether it be treating you, hosting in the future or some other kind act. A good deed is its own reward but we should always pay back good deeds with more good.
Secondly, I am a fully trained English Language teacher. I can happily help anyone improve their English skills if they would want. I really enjoy to teach and to help people so if you would like help with this, just ask :)
I would love to share our experiences together. To talk about my life and yours, and see what we can learn fromceach others life. Maybe after our conversations we will have both learned something new and insightful.
