This is especially important for people who don't have the money or the nerves to sleep in an expensive and shared dorm. Having a connection to a local host is simply the best way for getting to know the city, the 'culture' and the lifestyle of your destination. So, I guess, that's what I like the most about couchsurfing and maybe this gives you enough of an impression of me.
