About Me

Since 2013, I have operated an eco tourism business that provides overnight sea kayaking trips from a live aboard mothership in Florida and The Bahamas. Before that, I was a farmer in Washington State raising winegrapes, cherries, apples and pears. I am a no frills traveler. I have lived on a boat for extended periods of time and have adapted to tight living quarters. In other words, I'm easily pleased with modest accommodations. I am open minded and appreciate people who view the world differently than I do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I often travel back and forth from Florida to Washington State. I would like to meet people across the country as I travel. I am an avid outdoorsman and have spent a good deal of my life climbing, hiking and sea kayaking in the wild. Still, the best thing about travelling is the people that I meet along the way. I live to meet people who have a colorful passion for life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite books that I've recently read are; The World Until Yesterday by Jared Diamond, Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Hararai, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Some of my favorite movies are; Into the Wild, Pulp Fiction, The Sheltering Sky, Searching For Sugarman.

I like most music, however one of my favorite genres is folk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I raised many different crops on my farm in Washington, but the only crop that really mattered were my two daughters that grew up there. They are now, truly, citizens of the world, and I draw my inspiration from them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied geomorphology in college and am always interested in learning about local geologic features. As a stakeholder in the Washington wine grape industry, I was the chairman for Wine Grape Growers of America for two years. I'm interested in learning about the many growing areas in the United States and other growing regions across the globe.

What I Can Share with Hosts
