Overview
About Me
My name's Debbie and I live with my husband John in 'sunny' (windy) Aberystwyth!
We love to host and to meet new people, and often find ourselves in need of a brief stay when we travel too.
John works locally and I work from home illustrating and fulfilling art commissions, so there's usually someone at least nearby, most days. I'm disabled due to chronic illness which can limit my travel and activity plans but I can usually manage most things and have slept on a few couches in my time-!
We're both Christian (Protestant), but not of the 'conservative' US-centric kind - we are both fairly left-wing in our political and ethical ideals and try to accommodate and learn whenever possible. I support social activism and the fight for equality and campaign when able. We are a straight/queer mix-bag couple and have friends across the gamut of faith, background, ethnicity, nationality, gender and sexuality, as well as from all over the shop in terms of income and social strata and personal interests. John and I don't try to impose a lifestyle on others beyond insisting on mutual respect and tolerance to others, and we both try to be accepting and open-minded to experiences that differ from our own. People who stay with us are ours to care for!
We have a couch to offer now and again, and are currently in the process of constructing a full spare room.
For now, however, our situation doesn't allow us to offer stays without significant notice (or at all, really), because we have a lodging housemate who finds new people difficult to handle and can become anxious.
Would regardless love, whenever able, to meet up with visitors and and show them some fun in town.
Goals are to be loving and friendly to people, help them if they need it, and have an amazing time!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm beyond happy to travel and meet new people, and intend to be free to host again sometime in future.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met up with some Couchsurfers and hosted a few, all successfully! We also offer our couch and sometimes our own room to friends and family who come to stay.
Interests
As an art student I really love seeing exhibitions and am involved with the university, so whether you want activites or to chill out in the local Union we can help!
I like painting, drawing, illustration, films and photography..
I'm a big fan of good food and cook quite often. We also like going out and know many of the restaurants in town (and some of the chefs!).
My husband John has an MA in History and knows a lot about the local town and the castle. There are some really strange stories! We know our way around town so can help with directions and good places to meet up with people.
We both enjoy music too, and are friends with the Rock society guys. We also love the cinema and trips to plays, so we can give you details if you're interested in a night out.
John and I are Christians so we can help fellow Christians with finding a local church or place of worship. We do welcome those of other beliefs as well of course ;)
We have a PS3 which we like to share with visitors, and we meet up with several different uni societies, including Art, the Sci-Fi Soc, and WARPSOC (a roleplaying and gaming society). We like books, comics, computer games and board games.. I guess we're typical students really, except for the 'staggering home drunk' bit..
I've also been part of the university sports community, and enjoyed my time at Trampolining. I also like paintball, swimming and various team games.. though I'm not always very good at them I'm happy to join in.
And hugs. I like hugs.

Music, Movies, and Books
Watchmen (I read it before the movie!), David Eddings stuff, Stephen King's The Dark Tower, the LOTR trilogy, Night Watch, Amelie, Monsters Inc and most Pixar stuff, the Lion King - if it's cute, interesting, deep or fantastical, I like it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I hugged tigers!
Teach, Learn, Share
Stuff to teach... well, I know tidbits of five or six languages, and how to say I Love You in about ten. We can sit up and chat about religion, philosophy, or just the latest films. I can help you with sketching and drawing, teach the use of Photoshop and other techy computer stuff, play comp or card games or even freeform tabletop RP.
I know some interesting places in town that others might not (though it isn't a big town of course..).
We can also show you how to LARP if you're up for it - it's weird but so much fun!
