After graduating from University, I landed a public school teaching position in the small city of Mokpo, South Korea. I have lived here for about 3 years now, and I've loved every moment of it, so much so that I don't know when I'll be returning back home to the states. My job has given me a lot of freedom to travel, and so now whenever I have vacation time, I try to go somewhere new, whether in Korea or to a new country.

Personality-wise I'm pretty chill and relaxed, and I'm not afraid to try new things. I'd rather take my time and savor an experience than rush around trying to do everything.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

What I have loved best about living long-term in Korea is that I have gotten to meet and befriend local people, and learn and experience the country informed by their perspective. Even though I'm only traveling short-term, I want to experience a place away from the well-trodden tourist path, to see a different side of it. And so I have joined couchsurfing, to meet new people in different places, and see what it's like to be a resident of a place, even if only for a short while.

These days my world is inundated with Kpop (courtesy of my students), with my favorites being Big Bang, BTS, Epik High, Dean... I feel pretty cut off from what is popular in the rest of the world, so I wax nostalgic and listen to music from my high school and university days, namely Death Cab for Cutie, Coldplay, Avalanche City, Meiko... indie and folk pop.

I'm so much more of a Netflix Tv show kind of girl... Korean Netflix is kind of limited, however, so I've been watching my favorites from the past: Scrubs, How I Met your Mother, Dr. Who. ^^

I couldn't possibly say what my favorite book(s) is/are, but I do have some writers I keep coming back to, over and over. Evelyn Waugh, Wallace Stegner, Ursula K. LeGuin, Don Delillo, and Haruki Murakami are just a few.

Although I'm not particularly talented in learning languages, I find myself weirdly drawn to it anyway.. (I'm a Linguistics major). I read once that learning another language is one of the greatest acts of friendship... So I'd love to learn language wherever I go, and help others with English as well.
