About Me

I'm a pretty simple guy. At first I'm a quiet guy because it's very hard for me not to make jokes all the time and some people don't like that. Not everyone that watched Friends liked Chandler. So I prefer to listen first and when I do get confortable, I don't shut up.

I'm one of those guys that still feel awed by the things we achieved everytime they leave the house. Maybe because we are discovering new galaxies and programming conscient beings. Or maybe because of the epic story behind human evolution over the course of its many civilizations and how your smartphone got into your hands. Who knows. I think it's impressive how not long ago we used to fight with sticks and how we are basically gods today.

I'm open to doing pretty much anything, as long as I'm with people I like. No matter how crazy it sounds. I basically think everything is awesome if you're with awesome people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I never really travelled in my life. I mean, I left Brazil to come live in Portugal, but that's pretty much it. But now I feel like trying new things with my girlfriend because we are both young and there is so much to see in this awesome little planet of ours. I'm hoping CS will allow me to meet some people that will help me learn how to appreciate the world more.

Interests

I don't know if I love or hate writing, but I do a lot of it (and people think I'm good at it, so there is that). I'm really passionate about film as an art and I write a lot about it too. I'm also very fond of TV and write about some shows for the leading website dedicated to it in Brazil. I write some fiction too.

I live for those stunning scientific achievements that we hear about everyday but most people don't pay that much attention to. I consider myself an agnostic atheist, but I was raised a christian in a completely christian family.

I'm not specially great at cooking, but I happen to find it extremely fun, in the sense that I get really excited buying stuff and just mixing it altogether to see how it tastes. I would like to stress that this doesn't mean I'm actually good at it.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC

I listen to pretty much anything as long as it feels different and inspiring at the moment. I get to know new stuff everyday.

What I've been listening to: Swans, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Talking Heads, Goodspeed You! Black Emperor, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Battles, Kognitiff, The Clash, Chance the Rapper, Brock Berrigan, Graveyard, LCD Soundsystem and Frank Zappa.

Not long ago I was spending most of my time listening to Björk, Of Monsters and Men, Broods, St. Vincent, Arctic Monkeys and Banks.

I can't express how much I love getting to know new stuff. It's one of the best feelings in the world and as everyone knows, the best feelings are those you can't really describe.

FILMS

I'm not a pessimistic guy, I think foreign and independent filmmakers today are coming up with pieces of art as meaningful as those of Bresson and Hitchcock, they just don't the publicity they deserve. I find a new favorite film every other week.

Some of my favorites are: I'ts Such a Beautiful Day (2012), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Memories of Murder (2003), Come and See (1985), M (1931), The Tree of Life (2011), The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), I Saw the Devil (2010), The Past (2013), Tokyo Story (1953), Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013), Annie Hall (1978), Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015), Rope (1948), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927), The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Finding Nemo (2003).

TELEVISION

My favorite dramas are: The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men, The Shield, Lost, The Leftovers, Firefly, Fargo, Banshee, Black Mirror, Homeland, Six Feet Under, Fringe, Sons of Anarchy, The Good Wife, House of Cards, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Breaking Bad.

My favorite comedies are: Community, Arrested Development, The IT Crowd, Rick and Morty, BoJack Horseman, Louie, Californication, Horace and Pete, Friends, Misfits, Freaks and Geeks, One Punch Man, The Office US and Gravity Falls.

Oh, and I love Hunter x Hunter with everything I got.

BOOKS

I feel terribly ashamed to say that I don't read many books these days, not because I'm not interested, but because films take pretty much all my time. But I've been working on it. And yes, I realize how stupid it is that I don't read a lot and yet write a lot.

With that said, by favorite books are probably: The Stranger by Albert Camus, The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien and Hearts of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

I don't know if it counts, but I'm into comics too: Sex Criminals, Pretty Deadly, All-Star Superman, Preacher, One Piece, Moon Knight, Thor, FF (Matt Fraction & Mike Allred), Silk, Ms. Marvel, Daredevil, The Superior Foes of Spider-Man and some more. I believe comics need to be fun and inventive, I'm not into that 'trying super hard to be serious and edgy' bullshit that it's being pushed around these days.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was a 11, I went to Hopi Hari (an amazing brazilian theme park) in a school field trip. It was horror night, so the place was full of people dressed up as monsters. It's one of the purest and happiest memories I have from my childhood. It makes my heart warm and makes me want to go back in time, because I was too scared to go on roller coasters and stuff (I did go into a terrifying labirinth, though). As long as I have the memory of that day, I will always know what it means to be a happy kid. I still remember everything about that day. I think that was the first time in my life that the entire world froze and I realized how amazing living really was.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can introduce you to interesting aspects of both the brazilian and the portuguese cultures. I spent my childhood in Brazil and my teenage years in Portugal.

I really want to know how to be a couchsurfer, because I never did anything like this in my life and I want to learn how to be able to go anywhere anytime and just enjoy my visit.

And I can share with you some really awesome stuff that you might be missing on TV, like Rick and Morty. Boy, is Rick and Morty good.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great conversations over a bottle of [insert whatever you drink here]. Being up to pretty much anything and being excited about seeing new stuff. Plus, I can let you play my Nintendo Dsi... so there's that.
