Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the world as much as I can while bringing a little joy to every place I go!

ABOUT ME

Hello there, nice to meet you. I'm Kelvin. I am originally from the DC area, and I've been playing trombone since I was eight. Other than DC, I have lived in Jamaica; Portland, OR USA; and Philadelpia, PA USA. I have a strong passion for music and exploring other cultures, and hope to pair the two into a profession one of these days.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by going to events in the community, being a good host, and surfer. I try to connect with everyone I come into contact with, and have a cultural exchange with all willing to participate.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My experiences, though limited, have been great thus far. I have only hosted and surfed in America so far, but I hope to change that very soon.

Intereses

I studied jazz trombone with a minor in jazz voice for my undergrad, so I'm heavy into the jazz scene, but I do enjoy all types of GOOD music. I'd be happy to discuss my philosophy on what makes music good, but in due time. That being said, I like to go out and hear small intimate concerts, and I spend a lot of my time practicing trombone and composing. When I'm not doing the music thing, I also enjoy exploring cities and people watching. In another life, I'm sure I was a sociologist.

Música, películas y libros

I run a very wide gambit on all of these things. It would probably be best to ask me these things in person.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Teaching music in Ghana. It was an amazing experience, and being able to help those kids accomplish great things will always be something I cherish. My ancestors are also from Ghana, so it was nice to be able to connect with that part of my heritage.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I would love to share my knowledge about music! I have painstakingly analyzed so many records in my time that I can't really listen to bands without critiquing them. If you want to know about music, just hit me up. Also, I love to talk about urban black culture in America. How society views it, how it's represented in popular culture, how gender and sexuality is expressed within it, how it is to live in it, etc. I also love to discuss sociology and gender/sexuality. I love discussing social constructs in general!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I have a great sense of humor! I don't believe a day is complete until I have laughed so hard I cried. Also, I am always willing to share and receive information about music.
