About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling, learning, growing...doing everything I can to help end hunger and malnutrition!

ABOUT ME

I was born in Michigan, north of Detroit, and went to college there as well. I took the summer off to go traveling, and realized how much more I learned on the road then I had in school. Thus, I say I grew up in Georgia, my hostel home. I've been more or less traveling since then. I love food and love to share that passion. I cook almost constantly, and am a near vegetarian (healthy meat raised with love and respect, slaughtered in a quick and kind manner, and raised in a way that hurts neither the animal nor the environment is welcomed by my body!). I also obsess about nutrition and am learning a great love and respect for growing food. Identifying and harvesting wild foods, as well as salvaging food by dumpster diving are more ways that this passion comes to life.

I'm a very huggy person, and someone who refuses to let life get me down for long. Everything has a humor to it! I read a lot, doodle frequently (I once ran a webcomic). I am a expert costumer and love halloween, with a life-long goal of seeing all the halloweeny sites around the globe.

PHILOSOPHY

The most important thing in my life is community. I have lived in and been a part of many communities and love all that they have to offer. With community, we have strength, both to support each other and to oppose injustice. We are loved and can love, needed and can fufil each others needs.
I call myself a food activist, and several reasons for this have been listed elsewhere. I believe everyone has the right to a healthy and delicious meal. I support local foods, farmers...I work in gardens, farms, and kitchens. I save food from dumpsters and am often pouring myself into books on gardening, permaculture, wild edibles, recipes, you name it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to meet beautiful people, sharing my life with theirs, learning and teaching them all I can. Some day when I do settle, I look forward to 'paying it forward', and sharing my couch with those in need! I'm becoming involved in the world of activism, mainly because I believe everyone should have the right to good, nutritious food, and to do so in a way that works with our environment.

Interests

Cooking, cartooning, wire art, hugs, chickens, halloween, rock climbing, drumming, costuming, dumpster diving, gardening, permaculture work, nutrition, massage, wild edibles, anthropology studies (specifically those relating to food and nutrition), kitties

Music, Movies, and Books

movies and music not so much...My reading tends to be equal parts nutrition/cooking studies, environmental education, and silly humor. As such, a few of my favorite authors are Michael Pollen, Sandor Katz, and Christopher Moore.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked up a beautiful mountain this morning, seeing an amazing sunrise and sharing laughs with a few fellow travelers...too many magical moments in my life to choose one!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a self-and-other-person taught chef. I love to exchange recipes, cook meals for folks, trading knowledge and ideas in the field of cooking and nutrition. At the Hostel, I tried to provide a nutritious, filling vegetarian meal for everyone that came to visit. I love trading massage, or even just giving a backrub. I am interested in learning more Spanish and sign language. I'd like to know more about everything I've listed as my interests, I'm definitely not the master of anything. I'd like to learn more about my love of food activism, and get involved in a food-not-bombs chapter or with the Weston Price Association.
