ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Alex.

I'm 24, and I live in Chicago. I studied psychology at DePaul University, and graduated with my bachelor's degree in 2009. Fell in love with the city, and since then I've been been kicking it here. Lived in a bunch of different apartments with some awesome (and some not so awesome...) roommates, but I'm currently located on the far north side with another avid couchsurfing enthusiast. I know the north side like the back of my hand, but couldn't even begin to tell you about the south side. Chicago can be a dauntingly large city to live in, but I love it. I wouldn't be the person I am today had I not grown up here.

As far as how I make money, I've worked in a variety of interesting restaurants and bars for the last few years serving and bartending, and I can't complain. I live the life I want, and I surround myself with quality people. With flexible scheduling, rarely having to hear an alarm clock, and full-time employment at 4 days a week, I'm pretty much chilling. As a social person who enjoys nightlife, it's the perfect job.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that I am alive right now. I exist as a collection of memories, thoughts, and desires. I am shaped by my past, but ultimately control who I want to be at any given moment.

I live in the present, and I am excited about the path that my life is on.

"Am I really all the things that are outside of me? Will I complete myself without the things I like around?"

I'm willing to host and hoping to be hosted.

I keep myself busy, so I may not be the most active person on this site. I'll host when I can, but most likely be a "coffee and a drink" person a majority of the time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Where do I start?

I may be a new to the site, but I have quite a history already built with couchsurfing.org. My roommate has hosted an innumerable amount of guests from all around the world over the past 4 years, and I've talked to almost all of them (as well as had a drink with almost all of them). I've met some outstanding people, and have gained an invaluable perspective on life because of it.

I truly believe that couchsurfing is the only real social networking site in existence.

Interests

I'm passionate about music. It speaks to me in a way that no other art form does, although I appreciate any form of personal expression. I feel it. I've been writing and producing music for the past few years, and have recently begun to DJ around the city. I run a music blog (poorly...) and I post all of my original material and production work on my soundcloud site. If you like to dance, and you can get down to house music, check it out. If it's not your thing, that's cool too. I make it because I want to, but it's always great to find people who dig what I do.
