About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To keep moving forward.

ABOUT ME

I have been married for 39 years. Kids are grown. I retired from teaching English at a community college and am now in State Government serving in the Maryland House of Delegates. I play guitar in a rock and roll band. I like to cook using wood. I built an Argentine parrilla and a wood-fired oven in my backyard. We have an active social life with good friends we get together with every weekend to cook a great meal.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't believe everything you think.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Interests

I love to cook. I enjoy building things. I work with my brain most of the time, and it gets very tired by the time the school year ends, s I like to solve three-dimensional problems and build something in my yard. I spent six months in Argentina in 2007 to study Spanish, and I like to practice that when I can.

Our favorite way to travel is to stay for a long time (one to six months) in one place. We like to rent an apartment in a neighborhood and get to know what it's like to live there. The best part of traveling is to be welcomed into people's homes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like science fiction books and movies--especially dystopia-themed. I prefer listening to NPR rather than music, although I really love playing music, but oddly, don't listen to it much.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traced my family back to Northern Ireland and sat on the corner stone of the ruins of my great-great-grandfather's farm house.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a retired English professor, my wife is a hospital pharmacist. She is always involved in some project--usually some home improvement. I love to cook and am currently perfecting bread. I really enjoy having a full Argentine asado on my parrilla or hosting Friday happy hours for friends and neighbors cooking pizza in my outdoor wood-fired oven in the summer. I am always happy to teach these skills and learn how to do them better.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Uruguay
