About Me

Hi everyone,

I'm Kenneth. I'm finishing my Master's degree in Slavic and Eastern European Studies at the KU Leuven, Belgium. I love traveling, especially in Eastern Europe and Russia. I like meeting new people, from all countries and all cultures, that's why I think it's great to study in Leuven, a vibrant student town with aprox. 9 000 foreign exchange students every year.

I'm sorry I can't let any couchsurfers sleep at my place: I live in a university dormitory. I do have a single room, but I can't let people stay longer than one night.

If anyone comes to Leuven though, I'd be more than happy to show you around!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling and experiencing a country from the inside, through the eyes of the locals. For me, that's the point of traveling. That's why I like to stay at hostels or at homestays, and of course couchsurfing. I'm not picky, and really don't need a fancy four-star hotel: I feel perfectly at home on someone's couch.

Interests

I'm really passionate about food: the first thing I do when I visit another country, is try out local dishes. I really go out of my way to discover national tastes. The Slavic countries, especially Russia and Poland, fascinate me. Furthermore, I'm an avid reader. I also like history, both of my own country, as of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Nikolaj Gogol is by far my favourite author. Dead Souls, and the Tales of Petersburg (especially The Portret) are my favourites. I also really liked The Old Man and The Sea, as well as For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Hemmingway.
I can appreciate almost all music styles. Every mood has it's own music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending a few nights on the Mongolian steppes with nomads. By far my best travel experience ever.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach people my native language, Dutch (Flemish), or English. It would be nice to share and discuss the differences between our cultures and countries.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good talks over a pint of beer, some basic Dutch words, and a lot of fun!

Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom
