About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see, and allow others to see the world...frugally!

ABOUT ME

Well, alas, after taking 8 months off work last year, and hosting tons of couchsurfers, I will be working this summer, and thus not as able to adventure around with those heading up here. I will likely be cramming hikes in after 6pm, however. I live a 1.5 mile walk from downtown, so if you don't mind a host that isn't around much during the weekdays, let me know.

I'm an environmental scientist with an engineering firm in Anchorage, Alaska. I'm very easy to get along with, easy-going, energetic, and I really enjoy meeting new people! I lived in Colorado the vast majority of my life, but I have also spent summers in the Appalachians of Kentucky, and Mount Rainier National Park in Washington leading volunteer groups for trail restoration. I moved to Alaska 3 years ago.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a believer in simplicity. I value my friendships and I love meeting people that help give a different perspective on life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just found out about couchsurfing in late March (2013) as I began a 2 month whirlwind tour of Australia. Currently it's my turn to repay all the generosity that I received while I was traveling!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had a GREAT couchsurfing experience! There are so many generous people in this world that it's really hard to not keep giving back.

I am very considerate of those I stay with, and those that stay with me.

Interests

I am hugely into the outdoors; running, backpacking, hiking. I play the piano, and I'm into all kinds of music. I enjoy cooking, and (imagine that: traveling!). I spend a good amount of time volunteering.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy all kinds of music, and if I don't, I try to listen to that genre as much as possible until it starts to grow on me! Indie Rock is probably my favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I just returned from a 3 month whirlwind tour of Australia, where I stayed with many generous couchsurfing hosts. I volunteered at a sheep station in the outback, an animal sanctuary, spent 15 days in a tent, and I saw more of the country than I ever would have imagined to be possible in a 2 month time.

Teach, Learn, Share

The higher in latitude one goes from the equator, the colder the temperature of the atmosphere above. This denser air creates a shallower air column that decreases the air pressure, and thus creates conditions that resemble the "thinning air" one experiences when traveling higher in elevation. Thus, an elevation in central Alaska is roughly equivalent to an elevation 1,500 feet higher at the equator.
