About Me

UPDATE

Hi guys! I'm not taking guests for a while, my son is moving back home as his dad's cancer has returned. Will keep my profile updated and let you know when the tides turn!

CURRENT MISSION

It's the big Four Oh in February 2015, and I intend to see the new decade in with a bang! So it's off to NYC I go!

ABOUT ME

I'm easy-going, always up to try something new (it's not often I'll say 'no'), and enjoy adding to my bucket list, just as much as ticking things off.

I had my kids young (pro's and con's to that), but that means that now it's 'me' time and I get to be a bit selfish. I want to see the world, meet new people, learn new things.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm all about respect. Respect me and my views, and I'll do the same for you. We don't necessarily need to agree (how boring would that be?).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been an unofficial host for years, to both friends, family, strangers (now friends), and the odd friend who shouldn't drive home.

I enjoy meeting people from all over, and sharing experiences.

I'm hoping to surf for most of my NY trip in February, just so I can experience NY like a local, and have someone to come home to at night.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a newbie to the formal Couchsurfing, but I'd be happy to add anyone as a Facebook or LinkedIN contact to verify I'm not an axe-murderer, and won't steal the family silver while I'm in your home.

Interests

I love a bit of everything. Books - reading and writing - are probably my first love. I try to scuba dive as often as I can, and horse ride at least once a year (was a frequent rider as a kid). I volunteer at a community law clinic.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Big Band, 60's, Jazz, Pop, Rock, and even some of the latest stuff my kids listen to. I prefer songs more than bands, but I'm pretty much into everything.

Movies: Riding in Cars with Boys, anything that makes me laugh, anything that makes me cry.

Books: too many to mention, but my favourite are books that take me to another place so successfully that I can tick it off my bucket list without needing to actually go there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For my 39th birthday I went to Fiji and dived with sharks - cageless. Yes, that's no cage. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I can't wait to take my kids back there so they can share the experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've had an interesting life, with a lot of challenges along the way.
I'm an open book and happy to share as much, or as little as you'd like.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm easy going and having raised two teenagers, I know how to pick up after myself and be respectful of your home.
It would be great if you had some time to accompany me on some adventures, or give me some advice on where to start. But I don't need a babysitter and I'm happy to go off on my own and explore for myself.
I have a huge luggage allowance, and travel light - so if you need anything lugged from Aus, just give me a shout!
I'm surfing for the experience more than the saving, so I'm more than willing to contribute to expenses while I'm with you.
I'm a foodie, and can cook for you or take you out for a meal (your choice).
