About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I travel to contemplate my life's work within a different context.

ABOUT ME

I value the opportunity to situate my self within an other culture and attempt to ascertain what convergences exist between the way I think and pray and act and these modes of activity in a different human community. I do not seek to convince anyone that the journey I have embarked upon is better than that of any other, nor do I mean to suggest that I have come to conclusions even for myself.

PHILOSOPHY

Seekers don't get lost if they have trusted guides. I value the connections I make for myself and others along these lines: if people seem infinitely unique and are seeking a God or a type of enlightenment which seems infinite, there's a lot to keep us busy and interested. I don't push my beliefs. I start by assuming they are unsolicited.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love conversation that unfolds within an atmosphere of exploration and creativity. Laughing about random and inconsequential happenings provides me with a counterpoint to important life pursuits. I immerse, observe, interact, relate, and reflect on my experiences. I need people to be part of these pursuits, but I also value time alone.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Up to this point I've never used a formal couch surfing service like this. But I have stayed on a lot of couches. I have a pretty formal and routine daily life, so I really get a charge out of making someone's couch my base of operation for a few days.

Interests

I paint and draw my dreams. I create landscape mosaics which reflect an interior appreciation of places which are important to me.

As I get older I write more frequently about what I consider to be a constellation of life experiences and insights. When I take the time to do this there is little creativity of which I am more proud.

I am an outdoor person. Exploring abandoned railroad grades is my favorite way to hike. Quad riding is a way I blow off steam. Kayaking is another. My favorite type of exercise is to swim in clear deep water.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been studying the mandala as an art form and as evidence of spiritual geography. In an attempt to understand the wisdom or insight which leads to this creative and spiritual expression I have been focusing on Shingon Buddhism and Renzai Zen Buddhism.

While doing all of the above, I listen to Vampire Weekend, Surfer Blood, Arcade Fire, The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Belle and Sebastian, Julian Casablancas, Beach House, The Killers, Panda Bear, Super Grass, Mushroom, The XX, and when taking a break anything from the year 1968.
