CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I'm a 24 year old on the verge of completing a university education, currently on a hiatus from traveling to finish my degree. For the past two years I've lived studied and traveled across the world, spending most of that time in the Asia Pacific region, specifically Australia, India, and Thailand, and some time in Europe and South America.

I would say the center of my life, the thing that everything flows out of, and what has served as the foundation for everything I am and do : is meditation. I did a 10 day Vipassana Meditiation course six months ago. Ever since, my personality and worldview, the core substance of who I am, has been completely turned on its head.

In the meditation course, for 10 days, you cannot speak, read, write, communicate, even glance at another person. The first meditation is at 4:30 am and you're meditating until 9 pm at night, at lengths of 1 - 2 hours at a time.

As you can imagine, I walked out of the doors on the last day a new being. I've completed three courses total now, with each course expounding on the benefits and insights of the last.

Teaching Yoga and meditation are my chief passions in life, because those two things, practiced diligently and whole-heatedly, I've found, are the greatest and easiest way to bring wealth and value to your life. Sharing this knowledge is the greatest things I can hope to do in my life.

PHILOSOPHY

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded"- Ralph Waldoj Emerson

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Whenever you think you've gotten close to understanding yourself or your place in the world, you read a book, meet a person, or have an experience that shines a bright light on your ignorance and reaffirms how little you know. I live for these experiences and Couchsurfing allows me to bask in them.

Interests

Passionate people- doesn't matter if its weight lifting, particle physics, or political Philosophy- I enjoy the company of people who possess a yearning for knowledge and a lust for life. As I mentioned before Yoga and meditation. I like skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding - all board sports.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been reading quite a bit of Political Philosophy. Here's a few of the books I've gotten into lately
A discourse on the origins of inequality by Jean-Jacque Rousseau
The myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus
Civilization and its discontents by Sigmund Freud
Beyond good and evil by Frederic Nietzsche

Favorite author- Christopher Hitchens. This man has helped shaped who I am today, and is the only person I can comfortably call my hero.

Favorite book- Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitch hiked roughly 4000 miles up and down the East Coast of Australia

Went homeless in Japan for 10 days. The alley of a fish market, a business office, the banks of a river, between bushes, underneath the sand on a beach are a few of the places I slept.

Came to Australia broke, and slept in alleys until I was able to get a job and earn money.

I have plenty of stories to share.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to teach you Yoga and meditation.

Cooking is one of my newest and most underdeveloped passions. I want to learn more. Definitely happy to cook for my hosts.

I want to learn how to take better photographs
New ways of thinking, approaching, and doing things
Anything interesting, exciting, or useful, count me in.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Colombia, France, India, Japan, Laos, Mexico, Sweden, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
