About Me

Just a 25 year old student of art history and architecture who's terrible at filling out bios. My name is Kevin but more frequently go by Al. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland but live and go to school in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the University of New Mexico. Now that I'm just about to finish my undergraduate career I want to try to branch out! Whether that means an hour away or a day away. Most of my time traveling is spent researching, going to museums, or getting lost (completely underrated by the way). I'm pretty open to meeting new people, discovering new music, food, films, ect. Musical taste are hardcore punk juxtaposed by classical music, but extremely open to discovering more!
Other interests include: cycling, gym (when I'm not cramming for exams), skateboarding (or at least attempting to), going to concerts, hiking around town, anything art and architecture related, classical music, bookstore browsing, or just hanging around here and there.
Let's hang! But if you've got work or have prior engagements, worry not! I'm always down to wonder on my own :) Being able to occupy a small space on the floor for the night is enough to keep me satisfied :)
Life motto? Find what you love and let it kill you. Haha!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have come across an extremely rare opportunity (for me at least) to study for a few weeks in Germany. Although I will be with my small class of about 7 students, after class lets out I am hoping to take advantage of this opportunity by traveling as much as I can (as well as hopefully land a short term internship while I'm at it) and maybe make a few connections along the way!

Interests

I currently study art history (with a strong emphasis on architecture) which is the primary focus of my academic life. But outside of that I LOVE cycling, skateboarding, going to as many concerts as I can, spending hours on end in museums, urban hiking. But when I'm somewhere new, I'm pretty open to do anything!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: the two genres I follow nowadays are classical (with an emphasis on 17th century Italian opera) and hardcore punk. Bands like Title Fight, Code Orange, Gorilla Biscuits, Have Heart, Punch, Touché Amore, Bane, Black Flag, Dead Kennedy's, Youth of Today. Shoegaze is also pretty great as well!

Movies: RomComs? Yeah. SciFi? Sure. Movies with white subtitles in snow? Yup.

Books: I'll read just about anything: books, magazines, online articles, peer reviewed essays, shampoo bottles, ect. Love Proust, Garcia-Marquez, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Lessing, and Dickens!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on the Upper East Side of New York for a year to study art history at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While I was there, I gave a lecture on the development of English portraiture and Hans Holbein the Younger on the gallery floor.

Or more recently, I work at my university helping students do 3D prints.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching and sharing? If you have an interest in art history, critical theory, decolonization, or monumental architecture then I guess I'm your guy haha!
If you want to work on your English while helping me work on my terrible French or Spanish, that's cool too.
I'm generally an open book and open to helping you out if you need it!
