Start life as a working adult the right way -- live thoughtfully, respectfully, and well.
A guy with an idea about where to go in life while trying to get as much out of it as possible on the way.
Just finished learning formally (university), now continuing informally (books, 'net, people).
I reflect on what I can take out of every event, every evening, every experience I have.
I have had more stimulating experiences living abroad than I have had traveling abroad, but I hope to be "better" at traveling in the future.
Do as much good as I can while enjoying life as much as I can
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host, I surf, I attend meetings, I show people around who don't need hosts. All of it!
Most of all, I tell everyone I know about CouchSurfing.
Hosted two Germans in the fall of 2009. Organized and participated in meetings in Berlin during summer 2010. Went on the CS canoeing trip summer 2010 in Hungary. Couchsurfed/tentsurfed in Budapest and at Sziget afterward.
During my time in Charlottesville, VA:
-3 Germans in Sept 2010
-Showed a Texan around who had a couch in Charlottesville in Sept 2010
-Hosted a delightful Tennesean in Spring 2011
-Hosted 5 Germans in Spring 2011

Teach, Learn, Share
I have much more to learn than I have to teach. Everyone does. There are a number of things I'd be particularly interested in learning over the next few months.
I'd love to keep learning Portuguese and keep my German in good shape.
I'm always interested in learning about entrepreneurs, NGOs, political and social movements, etc. from around the country and world.
I'd like to continue to practice soccer/football. Anyone who is interested in playing would certainly have something to teach me.
I'd love to learn something where I can use my hands a bit more -- whittling or carpentry or something.
I love the idea of a language exchange. I can teach both English and German. I studied German for 7 years and lived there for 15 months total. If I'm in a bar and there's some music on, native German speakers frequently don't notice I'm American. :-P
I also love sharing ideas. I've read a decent amount of political theory and think a lot about how people should live together.
Finally, I think there's a lot to be learned from how to run an organization or a business. I have been fortunate to be in contact with many entrepreneurs in many places. I've got a pretty solid business mind (or at least my future employer thought so!) and am happy to talk to anyone about new business ideas or growing a business. I think an entrepreneur, if he or she acts ethically and creatively, can really be a force for good in the world.
