ABOUT ME

I have identified myself as a writer longer than any other word that has grazed my personhood -- this one stuck.

Every move I have made in my life has been to grow closer to becoming a full-time writer. And towards insurance. I really need that.

I have to have a personal creative project -- or I get cranky.

I self-sooth with singing and writing. I clean or grocery shop when I'm upset/preoccupied.

I have a five-year-old dog who I am very attached to. He's a great guy | half beagle and half lots of mutt. He's housebroken and pretty vocal about how he feels -- but settles into being new best friends pretty quickly.

I observe first; it's in my nature. Probably why I'm usually the one behind a camera.

I will dance anywhere (there is always music playing in my head).
I will do your nails! I will clean your sink (residential cleaner for six years here. Gotta get through school somehow).

I'm hoping to meet some phenomenal people this summer as I take a huge leap for this experience. I'm leaving my home in Richmond behind for real this time and seeking rad work and environment.

PHILOSOPHY

We are here to learn and teach ourselves as we synthesize these experiences. Mindfulness! Embrace change! Stay positive.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm hungry for anything these days.

Been goofin' on audiobook for a while now. It's nice to be read to again :D Non-fiction, memoirs, philosophy.

So much Radiolab.

Love the standard jazz hollers (Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and so on) and am interested in finding new sounds. Totally in to hip hop jazz sampled awesome. I can love a sad white man singing on a guitar. I love female vocalists like Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Motown and Soul... haven't quite made it into funk, but I can definitely dance to it.

Movies. I've actually done a film festival with a few friends of zombie films. It was for a non-profit organization for an iconic theater in richmond (The Byrd Theatre). Great place, just falling apart!

I actually don't like zombie films.
Netflix personalized categories would say things like:
-Shows about Food
-Witty comedies featuring a quirky, strong female lead
-Workplace comedies
-Cerebral foreign films
-Buddy Comedies from before the 1960s
-Documentaries
-Family movies (Still love a classic Disney)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wandered around France for two weeks and tried to speak the language.

I danced for ten minutes in the rain waiting for the tram,
and that communicated more than I could using words.

Teach, Learn, Share

So far (and this is off the cuff, here):

-Nothing rots happiness like negativity
-write for self
-know what you know, ask questions about what you don't
-keep brain open
-trust your gut
-value you
-trust the struggle
-gratitude invites abundance
