Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My best experiences while travelling were made hanging out with local people. You get to know a country in a really different way than sticking to touristy places. Checking off Lonely Planet lists is not my cup of tea. Instead I wanna make my own bucket list. Any help from you would be appriciated. :-)

And there's another reason I like couchsurfing: I'm just plain nosy. No worries, your medicine cabinet is safe. But if you want to share a day of your life, your life story or be a cultural guide, no probs. Although just having a nice warm bed to rest my feet after a day filled with discoveries is pretty amazing too!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First journey far away I made was travelling on my own in India for 6 months.
It was amazing and changed me for life. India will always feel like a second home to me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

MY CRIB, YOUR CRIB
You can have a rest on a bright red sleeping couch (2 person). Be awakend by a flock of crazy magpies at the parking lot. My appartment is not big but everything works and the shower is really good. Please do not smoke indoors, but on balcony only.

TRANSPORT
Busses leave at the front of the house (2-4 times/hour) to city center and Railway station. By bicycle it will take you 10 minutes.

NATURE
If you like nature, have a nice walk at the park next door. In summer there are many open air concerts. Or you can enjoy people picknicking around. Nijmegen is based next to the river. Always good for an evening stroll. Or discover the wash-land and go swimming in summer with locals. Be aware for free wildlife though. Galloways and little horses are happy to empty your picknick basket.

SIGHTSEEING
The city center of Nijmegen is a mixture of charming old buildings and modern shopping streets. There a two small but beautiful parcs, one with ruins of an old fort. Check out St Steven's Church and the area around. There are some hidden gems to be found.

MUSEA
Culturally minded people will have a look at our art museum "Valkhof" or discover the local history of WO II. Keywords: market garden, a bridge too far.
There is a oriental museum close by and an african one.

GOING OUT
Start with a tour at our local Brewery "de Hemel". The name means heaven and that's what their beers taste like. The "Blaauwe Hand" is a very old pub. Maybe even the oldest in Holland. It's cosy, has good beers and a great Devil's stew. Guitarmusic lovers will do well drinking and dancing in Dollars. While more mainstream music is offered a little futher up town.

HIKING
8 km away is a perfect place for hiking. The hilly woods are made out of residue from the Ice Age, giving it some steep path to climb. Hidden on top is the perfect getaway after a good stroll: a pancake house! How Dutch can you be?

Germany is only 15 km away, if you want to make a little stop-over.
