ABOUT ME

I'm interested in a lot of different things and seek out new environments and experiences. Recently drove 4 hours to the desert part of Washington state to visit a Karen Burmese family whose children I taught last year. Mom taught me how to weave on a backstrap loom over the summer, but they left in July to become migrant workers. Took mom for a driving lesson in a parking lot, and sat that evening with a huge group of Karen folks as they practiced a new hymn in Karen for services on Sunday. Only know a little Karen, but I'm learning slowly from Na Mu Do and also the Karen students who still attend my school.

Interests

Seattle from NYC in 2011. Teach ESL and work in theater. Build sets, costumes, puppets. Climb and hike. Just started learning to dive. Play capoeira. Read a lot. Throw potlucks and pie parties.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kayaked up to orcas in September. Climbed to a mountain lake to see the stars the week before that.

Worked in October on a performance that involved butoh dance. Speechless during dress rehearsal at the culmination of one of the dance pieces. Remembered that exactly ten years before I was in Japan at a Brazilian beach party. Hadn't realized it had been so long.
