About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm a self employed artist, and I travel to art fairs, mostly around the midwest. This is usually when I seek a couchsurfing host, though I often stay with friends for art fairs, or in my van. I love meeting new people, and love dancing and music. I love to travel and hear about others travels.

ABOUT ME

I'm enjoying being a hermit in a quiet town in the midwest after growing up in the hubub on the east coast and then having 14 years of an intensely social life in Madison, Wisconsin. I love conversation but am happy to cut it short if people prefer less chat.

PHILOSOPHY

Life's short. Work on things you can throw your heart into. Be nice to people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting and surfing. A fun thing about being in Hannibal is I get a lot more requests to host than I ever did in Madison. People come by bike, by boat, sometimes even by car. Usually when I'm a guest in someone else's house it's because I'm at an art fair in their city, and so I'm out all day. I love hanging out for a chat in the evening if my host is but I also don't mind if they're too busy or would rather not.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fabulous! I've met so many wonderful people. And one REALLY large rabbit. Making ugly but delicious yatsuhashi, long conversations with a wonderful Ethiopian doctor, it's all been good!

Music, Movies, and Books

Lotsa lotsa stuff, especially balkan music, Isak Dinesen's stories make me want to write, memoir seems to be my favorite category of book lately. Movies: Man On Wire, Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, anything with dancing in it. Newest fave: Cooking With Dog on youtube!!!!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I swam with a shark once. Recently I lay on my back in a field in Wisconsin singing a thousand year old song with dear friends in harmony while watching a meteor shower that left sparkly trails over half the sky. A kingfisher landed a few feet from me on a railing in a temple in Japan, then took off again. No one else saw it. Inch long praying mantis in my garden, six inch long praying mantis somehow sneaked into my studio at night! Two large herons dancing together in the sky for 10 minutes in rural Japan; couldn't tell if they were fighting or fliriting; they were diving and dropping and circling each other about 25 feet from the ground.

Teach, Learn, Share

Peel ginger using a spoon. Always plant fennel nearby if you want to grow parsley. The black swallowtail caterpillars prefer it to the parsley.
