Eat. Drink. Be Merry. This philosophy tends to keep me happy most of the time.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I was an active member of the couchsurfing community when I lived in Tokyo in 2011, and I made some life-long friends.
More recently, I have been couch-surfing in Europe and South America!
I've slept on many floors, couches, futons, and occasionally (if I'm lucky) beds during my travels.
I have also given weary travellers a place to sleep in my house in Australia on many occasions.
My interests are pretty diverse but here goes: I love travelling anywhere and everywhere, I'm really passionate about music (particularly electronic styles, but i'm open to anything), and I love going out and having fun.
I work as a journalist / freelance writer / media teacher - so I have a strong interest in current affairs, international relations and politics.
On the less serious side, I also enjoy extreme sports (mountain biking and snowboarding), DJing, producing music, cooking Asian food (particularly Japanese, Thai, Malaysian and Indian), reading, writing... and also occasionally playing video games (yes, I'm a slight geek).
At the moment I'm also trying to learn Portugese!
Music, Movies, and Books
Mostly UK & German styles of electronica, as well as US hip hop. I spend my spare time DJing and producing music... so basically I like stuff that has a bit of bass underneath it.
However, I am really open to all kinds of music - rock, indie, dancehall, reggae, classical. Good music is good music!
I appreciate films that don't take themselves too seriously... and I do tend to lean towards sci-fi / fantasy / adventure titles. My favourite film is Spirited Away.
I'm a journalist by trade, so newspapers and magazines are what I consume every day. I also like to read both fiction and non-fiction books when I get the chance - often classic novels and history books.
The forgotten category! I'm into everything.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Every year brings its own amazing experiences. Last year, I landed my first jump on a snowboard. This year, I ate the best sashimi of my life. Next year... who knows?
Teach, Learn, Share
What can I teach?
I know the news business intimately. If you want to know about the media, news, writing, journalism, then I'm your man. Sometimes the answers aren't pretty :)
I'm also an amateur music producer / DJ - so I love collaborating and talking music with anyone who shares this passion.
And I have been a freelance tech writer in the past. I can possibly fix your computer... maybe...
