About Me

Over the years I have done a number of cycle tours under 1,000 miles. Some were sagged and some with a sag wagon. I used to do some endurance events as well. I also did the AIDS ride from San francisco, CA to Los Angeles, CA in 2000. For the last few years I have been at a place in my life where I have travelled extensively for work or pleasure, mainly to Mexico and Asia. I just completed in September a three month solo bicycle tour of Spain and Portugal. It was the trip of a lifetime!
I am 62 years old and have had long careers in modern dance, construction and more recently, industrial engineering. My Spanish is not quite fluent but I can communicate most anything I need to. I continue to study Spanish and Italian.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It just seems like a more interesting way of meeting new people than staying in hotels, plus my traveling dollars go farther. I also love hosting travelers and hearing what their lives are about and their experiences.

Interests

My interests include cycling, yoga, kayaking, snow skiing, rock climbing, swimming, cooking and ATV riding. I always look forward to meeting fellow travelers on their own new road!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am all over the map on music and books. Everything from Beatles, Cold Play, U2, Willie Nelson, the Cranberries, Peter Gabriel, Pat Metheny, Miles Davis. I love Cormack McCarthy from "Blood Meridian" to "All the pretty Horses", George R.R. Martin, Wired magazine, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Michael Connelly, John Sanford, Carl Hiaasen, "Mind Wide Open". A gazillion TED talks. I am also a huge fan of NPR's news quiz show "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me", Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black, George Carlin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Graduated high school, bought tickets, visa and passport at 17 and flew to Australia for four months all on two weeks' notice. Came back again 8 months later and landed with $50 in my pocket and no return ticket. That altered my life forever!

Teach, Learn, Share

It is the people in my life that give me a life worth living. Travel is more about the relationships than the places. The places are simply a beautiful canvas around which relationship occurs. But then again, there is also a relationship to be had with the places themselves. Best not to get too intellectual about being in the moment with life!

What I Can Share with Hosts

That so much of the good that gets done in life is a matter of aligning our conscious thoughts, speech and actions with our deepest selves. Simply being present to the myriad details of life is the basis for tremendous gratitude and joy.
