About Me
I have never put a travel book down! ... or left a cook-book unopened
I'm never without a book really
26 years ago I was born in South Africa, a place where heritage, culture, and wild landscapes are part of everyday life. I grew up there on the edge of nature reserves just outside Cape Town, which meant that the line between the natural world and daily routine was delightfully blurry—one moment you’re doing homework, the next you’re watching a troop of baboons argue over a sandwich.
South Africa has a way of staying with you, and I carry its flavors, stories, and energy wherever I go. In between studying and working, I’ve spent time volunteering and video-blogging across different parts of the lower African continent. I’ve always believed in the value of giving back—sharing knowledge and skills, whether it’s around a campfire in the bush or over a quiet coffee in a city café.
I am calm and grounded, the kind of person people turn to when things get busy or a bit chaotic. I’ve held youth leadership roles both at university—where I currently serve as postgraduate class president—and in my cultural melting pot of a city, which has given me the chance to connect with people from all walks of life. I’m naturally helpful, enjoy working hard, and try to bring a sense of purpose (and a bit of humour) to whatever I do.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As a curious architecture student I prefer side streets to tour buses and think the best way to learn about a city is to get slightly lost in it. This summer, I’m heading to the Netherlands for a program at TU Delft and looking for a place to stay—ideally with kind locals who enjoy good stories and a bit of exploring (with coffee in hand and minimal Google Maps panic)

Music, Movies, and Books
I’m a big fan of Bill Bryson’s books—his travel writing always makes me giggle.
I’m a walking jukebox—ask me about today’s sing-along. I played drums and sang in my high school jazz band.
Nature documentaries are my thing— I grew up with National Geographic and the History Channel.
Also love Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, and the occasional rom-com.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This year (2025) I designed and built a 5m tall wooden sculpture for Afrika-Burn with fellow students! Who quickly became dear friends, I love team spirit
Afrika-Burn is an event similar to, but 10x smaller than, "Burning-Man" in the USA, the ethos is about the art, giving back, and nature conservation efforts.
Teach, Learn, Share
In 2022 I lived with a small tribal village in Lesotho in The Drakensburg Mountains as a volunteer to build ablutions and a primary school for the community. I also helped with sustainable farming and learned a bit of X'hosa (a language spoken by 8 million South Africans) while there - I love sharing my knowledge of farming and architecture/construction
I volunteer for "green-pop" a South African NGO that re-forests coastal areas by planting indigenous trees.
I am part of a youth organization for Engineers and Architects called "The Young Urbanists" who work with The City of Cape Town to make public transport better and safer for everyone
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’m friendly, hard-working, and always happy to help. I’m clean and tidy (thanks to my family's guesthouse business) and can pitch in with tasks like washing cars, walking dogs, or giving architecture advice... I am also handy with fixing household things. I’m happy to contribute to food/accommodation or work in exchange for my stay. Plus, I make great pancakes and fire-cooked meals
