About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To engage with Cape Town and meet interesting, fun people while I'm here.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 28 year old, queer, British woman who just arrived in Cape Town.

For the last 3 years I've been working with young people in the UK both for Children's Services (i.e. local government) and for an NGO, doing youth work, advice, and using counselling skills. I've wanted to come to South Africa for about 5 years and this finally felt like time. I'm taking a little career break to focus on some personal projects and figure out what I'd like to do next, and am volunteering part-time with youth here in Cape Town.

Previously I lived in Leeds for 3 years and Montreal for 3 years while studying. In 2008 I went home to Norwich for 3 years (see a pattern emerging?) and in March 2012 I arrived in Cape Town. I plan to be here for 3-6 months.

I'm friendly, interested and pretty easy-going. I hope to use Couch Surfing to make some friends while I'm here.

PHILOSOPHY

Optimism.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have never been able to host as I've never lived with people I could talk into it!
In October I'm moving to Berlin to live with my girlfriend and am looking forward to finally experiencing CS as a host.
I've surfed in Canada and in Germany and hope to do so here in South Africa.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a huge fan of this project. It has changed travelling for me much more than I anticipated it would. It's so great to meet people who live in the places you're visiting, rather than just talking to other travellers or tourists like yourself.
People's hospitality and generosity blows my mind.
I'm a relatively independent spirit and would never want a host to feel they had to be my tour guide or to rearrange their lives because I was staying.
Every experience has been different and I think part of the adventure of CS is that you don't really know until you meet face to face exactly what the vibe is going to be, how you will click and how it will play out... it's exciting!
