About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Conocer Lima!! Y disfrutarla!!
ABOUT ME
Y compartir opiniones y experiencias.
Recently arrived in Lima, going to be here for five months to do fieldwork for my PhD. I would really like to get to know some people here (limenos - how do you say that in English? - peruvians, foreigners) to chat, go out for coffee or drinks, go dancing, go to the beach... I'm open-minded, sociable, curious, optimistic, I like learning new things and meeting new people and getting to know different places. Above all I like to laugh! And share opinions and experiences with people around me.
PHILOSOPHY
Make the most of life. I don't want to end up old and bitter, wishing I'd been braver/luckier/busier/wasted less time. I don't want to regret not having done things, tried things, experienced things. Life, in my opinion, is too interesting to waste.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
At the moment, my participation is limited to meeting for coffee/drinks/visiting places in Lima and around.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm new to this whole couchsurfing thing, but have several friends who are enthustiastic participants. Makes me optimistic that this is going to be a rewarding experience!
Interests
Once upon a time, before embarking on this whole PhD business, I had lots of interests and activities... used to be into diving, climbing, trekking, travelling (of course), yoga, swimming, dancing, cooking, photography, films, reading. I have a lot less free time these days, and don't get to do the things I love half as much as I would like. Still into yoga, still like dancing and climbing mountains, still love music, still enjoy messing around with my camera. I'm interested in politics (which is what I study in my PhD), social issues, philosophy, cultural events, generally interested in people and what they make of their lives.

Music, Movies, and Books
For music, my tastes are more on the electronic side of things, but being in Peru is teaching me to love salsa, cumbia, regaeton, etc. Lots more to learn here though!
For books, I mostly read things I guess you would classify as 'literary fiction'. Currently reading Marquez's 'Cien Anos de Soledad' - yes, in Spanish! A completely different experience to reading it in English (slower, for one thing ;-)), and one I am enjoying very much.
For films, independent/weird little things that you make you think or feel something. Definitely not into big bombastic hollywood efforts, anything else I'm usually willing to give a try.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My most amazing travelling experience so far... trekking up along the glaciers beyond Gokyo Ri, Kumbu, Nepal.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would like to learn to salsa! In exchange, I can help people practice their English (I used to be an English teacher, so have lots of practice at this...)
