CURRENT MISSION
Meet new people, learn more languages, and explore the world!
ABOUT ME
I am Dutch, male, 28 years old, grew up on a dairy farm. Working as doctor on the ER department in Amsterdam.
Yearly with a group of friends we go hiking in the mountains, total back-to-basic, sleep in tents, bring own water + food, no electricity, etc.
I like to travel, explore countries, cities, meet the randomest people, and be the random person other random people meet! In general I enjoy learning from other people, their background, culture, habits, languages, etc.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I currently live in Leiden, in the city centre, together with my boyfriend. It's a bit small, and sometimes we have friends over, so it depends if we can host. If you happen to stay in Leiden, I'm happy to grab a beer together!
Also, I would really much enjoy staying over at other people's places, especially during the summer. In my experience, staying with a 'native' citizen of a city enables one to experience that particular city in a much better way, rather than staying in a hotel / hostel: a host living in the city can show you beautiful, hidden places. CouchSurfing enables me to actually meet new people once in a while, and share life experiences.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Several times I met great people through CS. In 2016 I stayed with Janco & Marco in Budapest, had a wonderful time with them, as me and some friends got to see the city through their eyes.
Intereses
With friends, I tend to have philosophical discussions, reflecting on the good and bad in life, modern day society, etc. I find it important to be critical when looking at oneself, one's role within society, and our common responsibility concerning the environment, for instance.
As said before, I enjoy meeting people originating from different cultures, with different views on the world, and one's role in society. On top of that, I very much enjoy learning different languages.
Also quite a sporty person, love to go jogging, or long (day) bike rides to the beach or so. Also love surfing and hiking.

Algo increíble que he hecho
During summer 2013, I spent 10 weeks in Rwanda / Congo (RDC). This was a very special experience: at times it was amazing, at times it was the worst, frightening. I met interesting people, learned a bit of Swahili and Kinyarwanda; yet I also experienced how people survive in warzones, dealing with fear day in, day out.
I traveled to Congo on my own, to do some volunteering at an educational institute, working with Congolese people in Goma, on the border with Rwanda. A few weeks of my time in Congo I spent doing an internship in a local hospital (as a medical student, it was interesting to experience the health-care system in a different country).
All in all, it was a wonderful experience; it has taught me a lot of things no university education could ever teach me.
