I want to understand the world better by seeing more of it. I like the idea of wandering about to do that.

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a dairy farm in Southeastern PA with my five brothers. I go back from time to time to do real work.

On a more current note, I just finished school in Ithaca, NY at Cornell and I am going to Paraguay for the Peace Corps where I will work with small farmers and their crops. I originally thought I only needed to learn one new language, but it turns out that Paraguay has two official languages: Spanish and Guarani. I already have some knowledge of Spanish, but Guarani is entirely new to me. So I am excited to be learning both. I will spend two years in Paraguay and then I want to work my way over to Europe to learn other languages. Once I've learned Spanish I want to tackle German. Why? Because my favorite author is Hermann Hesse and one day I would like to be able to read his work in his native language.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I am home in PA briefly until the third week of September. Since the Peace Corps. has some very structured scheduling I may not be able to host people immediately. But I am looking forward to the opportunity of hosting people once that schedule is determined and slows down.

Through meeting people around the world I hope to share where I have come from and strike up conversation about the places we love and why. Rather than simply observing, I want to be a participant in some fashion wherever I go. I want to taste the food, the beer, and wine; and I want to get my hands dirty outside.
