About Me

https://vk.com/iriekunz

***English***
My name is Kun ("Koen" is the official Dutch version) and I am studying Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese) and East Slavic languages (Russian, Ukrainian) at the University of Leipzig. Last year I studied at the Federal University Kazan as an exchange student and this year I will do my Erasmus in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Bologna (Italy).

So you can imagine that I really love to learn languages. That's why Duolingo still motivates me to learn new languages, such as Japanese, Catalan, (Galician unfortunately is not available), Latin, Chinese or Indonesian. Honestly, watching the Naruto series with subtitles (to practice my listening in Japanese regularly) inspired me to even learn more languages after I started learning Japanese during my exchange year in Kazan. I give you my word on that.

In my free time (when I am not learning languages or traveling) I like to go to concerts. Mostly rock and ska, but I'm very open to all kinds of music as I'm open to all kinds of languages. :)

Last but not least, I'm interested in history, politics, philosophy and cultures. I love to watch the cycling races (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, La vuelta) or go for a run.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling is not only about just visiting the city as a tourist and go to all the sightseeings, it is also about getting to know new people and new cultures. Only by getting in touch with locals you can evolve from being a tourist into a local. Couchsurfing is the best way to do that, since it gives you the possibility to get to know the locals.
The other way around, I could show travelers the city and help them get around when I host them.

Especially if one cannot speak the language the country, it is very helpful, since only locals know about the hidden secrets a place has to offer and can help you immerse into the local culture.
