ABOUT ME
Hi,
My real name is Stephen, but I use kostoglotov for some sites; he was a character from a Solzhenitsyn novel, The Cancer Ward.
I keep (and at one point bred) pet rats. They're great for a small apartment, which is unfortunately where my couch is located. But I'd still love to meet fellow travelers, contribute to this community, and establish a reputation within it of being trustworthy and honorable so I can meet good friends when I do go traveling.
I'm a non-smoker/social smoker. Smoking on the balcony is fine. Social drinker. Pretty easy going and open-minded.
I always like to being learning a new language. At the moment it's Japanese. But I know some German, and would take the opportunity to practice it a bit. Ein wenig nachhilfeunterricht?
PHILOSOPHY
I hate taking photos of myself.
And the ubermensch can only be reached through an exhaustive search for identity with the penultimate stage being cosmic despair. But I'm happy being me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to learn all about traveling from travelers. I haven't been outside Oz before, but am planning on a very long trip starting next year, to last several years. I want CS to be a part of that, along with volunteering et al and WWOOFing. First destination will be Japan to teach English for a year, so I'd love to hear about anyone elses experiences with this.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Music, Movies, and Books
What a long long list.
I like either intelligent, character driven stuff (like The Wire, The Usual Suspects, The Shipping News). Or action/sci-fi movies that don't take themselves seriously (like Judge Dredd, or Demolition Man). Or good old fashioned zombie comedies.
I really should read some Stephen King. I've been into Palahniuk, Irvine Welsh, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Hunter S Thomson, Solzhenitsyn, etal.
Music: fuckin' everything just about. So long as its got heart and authenticity.
