ABOUT ME

I was born and mostly raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, and I love the climate here. Moved away a few times, to Australia as a kid, to Hawaii as a budding adult, then to the UK as a full grown. But came back here each time, most recently about 5 years ago. I feel that traveling either makes you appreciate your home more, or makes you change your home to a place more appreciated.

Having lived abroad in England for 2 years has given me a completely different perspective on life and people. Although I did miss the sun most days, I saw the seasons change like never before. After my first real winter came an understanding of the true majesty of the first warm day, and the bright green spring shoots once winter breaks into spring. I've never taken nature's beauty for granted, but now I really understand the worldwide celebrations of springtime. Even though England is mild compared to some places, I have certainly developed a profound respect for people living in cold climates.

I have always been a nature lover, grew up in the 'swamps' of south Florida. When I say 'nature lover', I don't mean hunting and fishing, I mean camping, hiking, learning, and respecting nature.

I have been a vegetarian for ~20 years, and I'll never go back. We only have one planet, at least for the time being, but this is not the main reason we should look after it. The reason is RESPECT. It is the golden rule. Do unto others... Although I'm not a religious person, there is no better guide to live by than the golden rule.

PHILOSOPHY

A little old lady sprang this one on me in the grocery store: "Life's too short to fold your underwear... Or anyone else's!"
True Wisdom.
Also, a smart man once told me, "Life's too short to drink shit beer".

Well, I've crashed on couches aplenty, but rarely through this official site..... so far.

It seems like I have a new interest every other week. This can be a good thing, because it generates ideas, but also a bad thing, because it makes me scatterbrained and it can be hard to keep my attention on just one thing. Some of my past obsessions have included bodyboarding (I only just rode my first wave a few summers ago), paddleboarding, picking up and putting down various instruments, taking things apart/fixing things etc.

I used to run the Sci-Fi, Horror, Graphic Novel, and Humour (Humor!) sections in a bookstore and have been a Sci-Fi fan my whole life but this job has opened up a lot of other interests for me. My favourite new author is in the Humour section, - Tom Hodgkinson, check him out. Also, "The Story of B", by Daniel Quinn changed my life. You should DEFINITELY read this one!

Always love the articulate Mr. Richard Dawkins and his book "The Greatest Show on Earth". It is very cool.

Currently reading a prophetic sci-fi story by David Brin called "Earth".

The most surreal experience I've had? First glimpse peeking through the widening gap of a lowering vehicle barge's ramp, gazing up at the painted cliffs of Santorini towering above the port, smell of diesel, grinding of gears, flashing warning lights, all to the soundtrack of a mechanized blaring through the ships PA system of Für Elise.
