ABOUT ME

I was born in the quiet city of Kyoto which I later discovered as an adult is actually far from quiet at all. Being one of the world most visited cities and that tourist populations are constant year round I have met and made connections with travelers.

I attended International schools for the majority of my education until my college years found me in Boston in the United States. I attended Berklee College of music and after graduating I have once again returned to Japan with plans to be moving to California in the fall of next year.

Music has meant many things to me over my lifetime and although I am sure the metamorphosis will continue, its already been my raft in stormy seas, my outlet for various un-bottlable emotions, and most importantly a way to make connections with more people than I had ever expected.

Having said all that, my backpacking and travel experiences are somewhat limited and so here I am ready to dive in head first.

PHILOSOPHY

Open hearts and open minds will open doors.

As much as I would like to believe that 100% every day, I for one get distracted by the ebb and flow of life. My mission is to remind myself of this everyday in one shape or another.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am very new to the couch surfing experience, but from what I have heard there seems like there is some great times to be had.

Intereses

Music.

I bring music to the top of the list only becomes this is what seems to consume my time, efforts and emotions the most. Having gone from playing on street corners to so many wonderful venues around the world it is my main source of interest.

Film.

Ahhh! Kicking back and watching a movie is up there with kittens and Indian food. Gotta love it.

Walks.

Not marathon type walks but once I get a pace going I'll walk my socks off.

I used to play music in the Boston public gardens for a living. I quit an office job I had to "Busk" full time. One time an elderly couple with a thick Eastern European accent came up to me and asked my if I knew how to play "Over The Rainbow". I quickly tried to figure out the chord progression and after a minute of fumbling I asked if I could just sing it acapella (they agreed).

So I tapped out a rhythm on the guitar while I sang the verses (as much as I knew them) and I started to get into it. I closed my eyes and as I hit the last note I opened them to find the couple crying. Shocked I sat down next to them on the bench and asked them if they were alright.

The women told me that it was her favorite song and that it was very memorable to her. She also went on to tell me that they had come all the way to Boston to see their grandson in his first week of college. She thanked me with most disarming honesty in her eyes and as they walked off I began to realize the power that music and art can have on people.

Now I know how to play over the rainbow :)

I am not only capable but enthusiastic about sharing music with as many people as I can all over the world.
A song is like a good conversation with a melody.

Oh, and by the way you can count on me traveling with my guitar :)
