About Me

Hi there!

You've wondered into an extroverted tourist who's looking for a nice chat to hear how you're doing!
I consider myself quite active - I love hiking with tents or hammocks (even in the snow), cycling in every country I find myself in, occasionally playing some disc golf (it's like golf, but with discs). When it snows I ski. But not in Latvia - we don't have any mountains here. I do it in that awkward way, where you try to get to the ski lift that's 100m from where you stopped, but instead of 100m I do it for 10 kilometers. Oh and I enjoy boldering!

Few of my best trips include New Zealand where we hiked for two days across a mountain and slept at a native Kiwi hut who wanted to take us fishing at sunrise. I've stayed over at a Japanese family's place where, for our surprise, the little kids didn't like any sweets we brought, and reached for soy-marinated pickles instead.

Professionally I'm a programmer - a good one when everything works, but a really bad one when I can't understand why the code isn't running.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To be honest I've been using couch surfing for many years, hosting together with my parents when I lived with them and traveled around the world meeting and staying at many hosts in the US, Peru, New Zeland, Europe etc.

Now the glorious opportunity (in the form of a missing Australian visa) arose to make my own account and find adventures in Taipei / Kualalampur / Singapore for 2 weeks or so while I wait for my flight back to Latvia.
If you did read this, please say "duck" in your mother tongue when starting a chat with me.

Looking forward to meeting anyone to have a friendly chat with, as these make the most memorable moments of traveling, showing around my own city, maybe even playing some disc golf

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to some podcasts like Darknet diaries.
Sometimes I try to pick up a book, but usually that only happens when I travel and have nothing to do in an airplane.

I love music as I participate in a monthly music quiz here in LV. You can find some wonderful artists out there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hidden 200 small ducks around a house I had to keep an eye on for a few weeks. Then I got a bunch of pumpkins hidden around my flat on Halloween.

I've done a back flip off a ledge when bungee jumping. That was fun.

Scuba dived in Cuba, Rafting, Sky Diving (first seconds are a rush, but then it's just windy)

After 3 hours of searching - found some trees to attach our hammocks to in Cyprus. Turns out there aren't many.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm what can I teach?
Iff it was 2010 I'd say cheap ways to travel, but sadly everyone already knows about couch surfing and sky scanners.

If you really want - I can help you set-up a local Docker environment for programming, but that might not be your cup of tea. Nor mine, to be completely honest.

If you have some snow - I can teach you how to cross-country ski.

I've taught someone to drive a car and cycle. Maybe I can replicate this.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I probably have some Latvian cookies and rye bread in my bag.
Don't tell anyone.
