About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm a real home-loving girl, who's about to marry a worldly, adventurous, and passionate teacher. I love family more than anything and yet I've lived the past 5 years in communities that are a days drive away from home. I'm thinking about taking some online courses to continue my education and help develop my professional CV. I want to have a career that deals with lifelong wellness and combines exercise, physical activity, and nutrition, with disease prevention and self management to allow individuals to have control over their health and be able to take a prevention-based approach on their well-being!
Interests
I love being outside walking trails and being physically active, whatever the weather. I love how happy I am when the sun is shining and I am productive and active.
I really like to maintain gardens and so I am about to start my very own vegetable garden with my man, Derek, in our backyard. We live very far north, so this will be an experiment to see how they do up here. I'm a huge fan of baseball and have played softball my whole life. I am also interested in cooking, camping, and making new friends

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Recently I was invited to embark on a 150km snowshoe journey among the ancestral lands of the Eastmain Cree Native people. A group of about 15 of us walked every day traveling by snowshoe, pulling sleds full of gear with the help of our husky dogs. This is an important tradition to the eeyou people of the Cree Nation, as it reminds them how their ancestors (even parents) used to travel, live off the land, and even give birth and care for families while surviving -40' weather. The struggle was real, and the eeyou people were damn tougher than you or I. I learned to be resourceful and have respect for beauty and power of their lands. Nature is truly amazing.
The "Winter Journey" they call it brought me a lot of emotion as we formed a family over the two weeks. The time went by so fast. When it was over, my transition back to community-living was tough! I cried missing the smoked tea over fire, missing the tents, and the sunshine in my face while crossing frozen lakes. I missed the laughter and the jokes, because this was an experience like no other. I am so thankful to be apart of something so meaningful to my community.
