About Me

I'm a Colorado native that's been living in Boulder for a little over six years after moving here for grad school. I grew up in Telluride, and have lived in Spain, upstate New York, Germany, Alaska, England, and Oregon. My Spanish and German are a bit rusty but I'm comfortably conversational, and I'd love to spend an evening getting some practice in!

I'm living with a roommate who is not on couchsurfing, so I'm not really available for hosting, but I'm happy to meet up around Boulder to check out some local breweries or hiking trails! If you're a road cyclist and want to go out on an easy ride I know several popular local routes, or if you want a ski buddy I've got the Keystone/A-Basin pass this year.

I teach chemistry at the university level, so clearly I'm kind of a nerd. I've got a pretty long list of places I'd like to travel to, and I'm trying to teach myself more languages (mostly working on Swedish right now).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to meet some awesome people from all over, whether in my hometown or theirs! I like to travel and would like to have a way to find some locals to meet up with when I'm visiting somewhere new, whether I stay on their couch or not.

Interests

I love all kinds of outdoors activities, I've hiked and biked 14ers, go backpacking and camping, road cycling, race triathlons, rock climb, run, and snowboard. I also love talking about movies, I have a lot of interest in cinema and storytelling, and I enjoy learning/talking about film theory. I also like playing board games and other tabletop games, between my roommate and I there's 20+ games in my home. I also enjoy going out and trying new breweries or distilleries.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty much a metalhead, recently I've been on kind of an industrial kick, but I'm a big Rammstein fan and like a bunch of nordic bands (primarily Swedish and Finnish).

I like so-bad-it's-good movies, sci-fi, action, and horror. I'm also a sucker for good cinematography. I like discussing practical effects and enjoy a lot of stuff that's cheesy but earnest, like Star Trek TOS and TNG.

Books I read are usually some sort of sci-fi/fantasy (Terry Pratchett, Harry Potter) or adventure nonfiction (Born to Run, Deep Survival).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last January I went on a weeklong trip with eight of my friends through the Guatemalan jungle to visit Mayan ruins. We went all the way out to El Mirador and back in a big loop. Our longest day was like 27 or 28 miles, and it started pouring rain, which was kind of nice because free shower! We got to see the sun set from La Danta, the tallest pyramid, and it was just our group up there. We got to see a stone frieze with the hero twins from Mayan myth that's just being uncovered, and the guide told us the story of the twins while I translated. It was pretty awesome.
