About Me
Hello!
My name is Kris and I am a 3rd year science teacher in my mid 20s looking for an opportunity to not only travel to other states / countries and explore new places, but also meet new people and get a sense of the local culture of the places I travel to. My sense of style (off-school uniform) usually includes a plaid shirt, converse sneakers and a baseball cap. I love the outdoors. Most weekends I'm heading west on route 66 for a hiking trip (or some other adventure) often in Shenandoah National Park. I have a pretty extensive bucket list that includes skydiving / bungee jumping, participating in a multi-day canoe trip, going scuba diving, getting my motorcycle license, learning to play the harmonica, backpacking famous trails around the world (including Mt. Kilimanjaro), and visiting all 50 states. In the process I'd love to meet new folks (and hopefully a few fellow adventurers!) along the way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While I really like the concept of Airbnb, I wish that there was more of an emphasis on host / traveler connections and communication. I always find it disappointing when the host is remote and there is little to no interaction between host and traveler. I've found the most memorable experiences ones in which I was able to converse and connect with hosts, sharing ideas and swapping stories and getting to know the people in whose home I was staying. I'm hoping that couchsurfing provides more of an opportunity to meet new folks and make new friendships.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like flipping radio stations depending on my mood, but I generally stick to rock stations. Favorite movies / TV shoes include Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, It's a Wonderful Life, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Office, Breaking Bad, New Girl. I haven't read many books recently, but I'm trying to take advantage of the summer months to get some use out of the ol' library card. Currently reading "What School Could Be" by Ted Dintersmith.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (well, sort of....) As a student teacher I studied and taught abroad in New Zealand on a school modeled after the "house system" which is the same concept that the houses of Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw were based upon.
Countries I’ve Visited
Belize, China, Costa Rica, Italy, New Zealand, Spain
