About Me

I am passionate, sometimes to a fault. I entered law school in order to work for others seeking human and civil rights. I am a great advocate and am working on being a better activist. I was working towards a PhD in literature but realized I wanted hands on work with people instead of academia. This choice has allowed me to go back to traveling & am enjoying the privilege in ways I never had before.

For some reason I have always had a strong desire to travel Africa. So far: Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. ❤️

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting new people. I don't have a couch to offer...yet!

I met some great people while traveling in India and when I first moved to NYC.

Well, travel. Human and civil rights, history, literature, music, art history, dance, world events. I am also a bit of a freak about animals; love them! Learning everything I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Almost all music but I just cannot enjoy Country Western! I appreciate their talent but the sound of it grinds on my last nerve. I really loved exploring contemporary Swahili hip hop and pop while in E. Africa.

I have an MA in English Lit so it's near impossible for me to list a few favorite books- there are too many.

Movies: I love old Hollywood horror & silent films

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For 10 years it was my dream to experience Rwanda so, for me, it was amazing to finally explore the tiny, beautiful country on my own in 2011. Although travel is usually more fun with a friend, this trip alone was perfect.
I also felt so privileged to work with a human rights legend in Madurai, India in 2012.
Hugging baby elephants in Nairobi and feeding bush babies in Masai Mara!

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, if anyone wants to learn or discuss feminist & post-colonial theory and literature, or anything dealing with gender rights and issues, I can go on all night. I also have a decent and random knowledge of US hip hop mostly in the context of social, racial & gender issues.
For those who are not from Detroit but who are currently entranced by what has been labeled "decay porn"- my entire family is from the city and I went to law school in the city so I can fill you in a bit on the great and not so great...

Countries I’ve Visited

Countries I’ve Lived In
