ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Kristina, and I'm a restless and joyful traveller, working odd jobs here and there to support my world nomad existence :)

I'm originally from Greenland but I've lived most of my life in Denmark, studying and working. I love both countries - Greenland for its absolutely breathtaking nature and my family; Denmark for charming Copenhagen and my darling friends and family.

I'm a very curious person and I'd like to learn virtually anything people can teach me. In 2009, while staying with my father and his family in South Greenland, I took courses in sewing sealskin and in making jewelry of stone and tools of caribou antlers, and I came back to Denmark with the awesomest presents ever!! I love to immerse myself into everyday life where ever I come about. For me it's often the little things that make my journey a great experience.

Right now, I participate only by surfing as I'm (for now) working my way around the world indefinitely.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

1 month before leaving Denmark for Australia in 2010, I terminated my lease and cs'd my friends and family in Copenhagen. It was a most joyous experience being pampered with neatly made beds/couches and delicious meals while preparing myself for 'The Real Deal'.

My first real cs experience was with a family in Brisbane. It was in Jan 2011, right after a big flood and I stayed for a week, helping them clean out the 1st floor of their house as they had been flooded by 1 m. I was very much moved by their generosity - taking in a cs while having to deal with the aftermath of a flood! This experience only strengthened my belief in the CS philosophy of mutual sharing and generosity and I will never forget them.

兴趣

No. 1 passion is travelling and so, my mission in life is to experience as much of the world as I possibly can.

No. 2 passion has to be nature - whatever it includes plants, animals, (some) bugs, rocks, soil, sand, water etc. I love learning about edible plants and animals and be part of the nature that surrounds me.

No. 3 passion is food. I love food and love learning how to prepare and cook exotic dishes. I'm very curious and will eat virtually anything.

In Greenland, I grew up eating seal, whale, caribou, birds and fish, so yeah - I'm pretty much of a carnivore.. But I have several vegetarian friends who all inspire me with their (to me) very creative green cooking, and I've learned to highly appreciate soy products, couscous, bulgur and lentils. I love food!! :)

No. 4 passion is dancing and singing. I'm especially fascinated by South American music and dancing and I know a bit of salsa and tango. Whether the music is slow, fast, passionate or just plain joyful, I just love going out with my friends and dance the night away. I also sing in Nordisk Koncertkor, a choir based in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.

Amazing Things Experienced :

Northern Lights undulating through a clear starry sky, shifting in colours from green and white to orange and almost bright red - it literally takes your breath away..

Diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef - the shapes and colours of the fish are amazing and depending on how deep you go, you may also get to see stingrays, sharks and sea turtles.

Horseback riding in the Australian outback, especially in dusk and dawn where the kangaroos are out to feed; the light is dim and the world is still quiet..

Kayaking in one of the most pristine places in Northern Norway - Bergsfjorden on the island of Senja. A relatively shallow fiord freckled with up to 100 tiny islands, with crystal clear waters and which serves as feeding grounds for seals all year round and humpback whales and orcas during winter.

Teach:
I can teach some few sentences in Greenlandic, so you can make a dazzling impression on the locals if you ever decide to visit this unbelievably beautiful country.
Learn:
I'm intermediate in French and would really love to practice and refine my spoken language. Furthermore I've always had a thing for Italian - I consider it the absolutely most charming language in the world (and I also love the Italien kitchen). I'd absolute love to learn some Italian, even if it's only a few useful sentences.
Share:
I like sharing recipes as I like learning how to make authentic dishes from all over the world. If I'd had seal, whale or caribou with me, I'd certainly share one or two Greenlandic dishes with you!
