Hi! I am a surfer, host, and CS socializer from the Midwestern US. Depending on my living situation, I have been both host and surfer, but also active in local CS social scenes. I currently live in the Pacific Northwestern US and have taken a shining to all things mountains including especially backpacking, skiing, and mountaineering. I really like gardening, making beer and cider, shaking my butt, laughing, music videos, cooking, making stuff out of wood, hunting (I'm just starting to learn, so I don't hunt as much as I hike endlessly in the woods without seeing any wildlife), and fishing.
Live with gratitude. Live sustainably. Meet interesting people. Make big memories. Cook great food.
I aim to be as unscrupulously positive as Lesley Gore or The Ohio Express. I want to do everything at least once. I want to have the resourcefulness of my grandfather. I am curious.
Selflessness. Less waste.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I like to host whenever possible and very occasionally surf. I also really like to just join CS meetups and junk. My first official surfer was Joe Rollin Porter, a pluckin bluegrass and folk singer. He became the Michelangelo of my couch empire.
The first time I surfed was in an eccentric apartment in Chicago. I lifted up the toilet lid to go to the bathroom and a raw black angus T-bone steak was secured to the underside of the lid. This is when I knew I wanted to wear the crown at the head of the Couch of Medici!
I like recorded music, live music, cooking, gardening, skiing, camping, board games, sailing, rugby, soccer, old or awkward paintings, unexpected gifting, internet lore, family, and marco polo (the game).

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't read fiction novels as much as I should and I'm not proud of it. I love music, pretty much all of it. Right now I'm reading The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey. I'm not above blowing up some dams.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I built solar panels and mounted them on my fire escape in Brooklyn in an attempt to achieve energy independence in a rented apartment in the biggest city in the US...that place has a way of crushing your dreams, but it was still fun!
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to play music and listen to music, but I currently have no instruments. I would like to learn to stay off my soapbox. By day, I'm a pharmaceutical scientist working on HIV prevention products. By night, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about how to be abundantly sustainable.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my enthusiasm for the green arts. I am always trying to increase my understanding of seasonal, native, ethical food. I have an interest in eating the foods that give us problems like those that come from aggressively invasive plants or animals. I am always doing some kind of project or initiative to step up my green game. It's a journey that will take us our entire lives, and that's cool.
