About Me
CURRENT MISSION
When I grow up, I want to be a Professional Day-Maker.
To have as much fun as anyone in the world who is not a rock star
ABOUT ME
Big fan of all things funny, spiritual, and hip hop. Give me all three and my pants will explode.
Last summer I completed the Mongol Rally with some friends, which is a roadtrip fundraiser from the EU to Mongolia, 8000 miles and sweaty stories for days. We filled our vehicle with soccer balls and toys, and passed them out along the way. Haven't been the same since.
In January 2016, I did a 10-day Vipassana Silence course - no talking/reading/writing/phone/internet for 10 days, no food after 12pm every day, and all the meditation you can eat. If you have any interest in these sorts of spiritual experiences, I can't recommend it enough and would love to share all about my experience.
In Summer 2018, I'm going to the World Cup in Russia, which will be my third World Cup....see you there?
PHILOSOPHY
I'm not sure if there's a higher purpose or not, but either way, that purpose has to include us maximizing the amount of time we spend in a happy mood. And that can easily be done by forgetting quickly and smiling at everyone we see. People think that life is happening to them and they tend to take things personally; but life is just happening and we just happen to be the witness.
In the movie UP (which if you haven't seen, please see immediately) they're finally able to float away their house by throwing out most things, even the things with strong sentimental value. I see my whole life as that movie - trying to keep it as light as possible with as few things as possible, so I'm always living light enough to float into the sky.
"Trip enjoyment is inversely related to how much shit you bring"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
The very first time I couchsurfed was with Jesse in Nebraska. When I woke up in the morning, there was what looked like a pet dragon eying me down, two inches from my face. Jesse then walked in, picked up the alleged dragon, pet it against his face, and said to me "I see you've met Lucy." It ended up being some kind of lizard that he'd smuggled over from Mexico. While that first couchsurfing experience did give me a fright, it also gave me recognition of the potential to meet the most interesting people in the world through this website. I have not been disappointed since.
Interests
I was an English major/Film minor, and worked for Michael Shamberg (producer of "Pulp Fiction) one summer. I realize that a lot of people claim to love movies -- I don't claim to love them anymore than these people or to even know more than them. But they make me giggly.
I played junior tennis at the national level. Wish I had played in college, but didn't realize how much I love it until recently.
I love driving. Sometimes I just go driving for fun. Some of my happiest moments are spent in the car listening to loud hip hop - it's the only genre where volume can make a bad song sound.......better.
Dancing. And watching the world walk in sync to the music in my headphones.
Whales. And giraffes.
Intramural team names.
Airplane meal desserts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My roommates and I took a post-graduation trip to Las Vegas. There, we had the opportunity to see "Love," the Cirque du Soleil/Beatles show. When I had first heard about the existence of this show, , I immediately decided that I could not imagine anything better in this world than Cirque set to Beatles music. After seeing the show, I share the same sentiment. Anybody whose happiness I care about, I will be telling them to see this show immediately.
In 2006 I went to the world cup (didn't decide to go until about 40 hours before I left). After being there for 25 minutes, I realized that I have to go to every World Cup for as long as I live. It was amazing.
Speaking of amazing, I'm in the process of replacing 'amazing' with another go-to adjective for something I like. Tried out 'incredible' for a while, but was turned off by the extra syllable.
Now accepting suggestions.
