ABOUT ME

I believe in living your life with no apologies and doing what makes you happy and feels right. I think taking chances are important and big risks can equal big rewards. I love challenging myself and consider myself to be a realist at heart with a romantacized view of the way the world could be.

I was born and raised in Southern California, and although the sunshine and beaches are nice, I feel like I belong somewhere else. I love cold weather, Italian food and would go through life barefoot if I could.

I love spending time with my friends and family and love meeting new people, however I think it's important to spend time alone too. I think tolerance is the most important characteristic a person can have and diversity and culture only make life richer.

PHILOSOPHY

"Forget regret, or life is yours to miss" - a line from my favortie Broadway musical, Rent. I think it's important to live in the now and not spend your life focusing on things that you cannot change.

I also have a tattoo of my favorite Shakespeare quote from Sonnet 116, "That looks on tempests and is never shaken."

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

New to couchsurfing but I am looking forward to making friends all over the world. I am very interested in hosting after I am back from my backpacking trip and settled in my new place.

Traveling, reading, writing, meeting new people, exploring the world, trying new things, stepping out of my comfort zone.

I am currently in the process of starting my first blog and have been trying to learn as much as I can about blogging. It's a work in progress but I am planning to devote more time as I spend the next few months traveling (thenkrystalsays.wordpress.com).

I LOVE FOOD and enjoy cooking and a good restaurant - good company always pairs well with good food. Traveling as much as possible is a huge goal of mine and the destinitations I'd like to go are endless. However, I love New York City and I hope to end up there at the end of this journey.

Books! I love to read. I love The Great Gatsby, Wuthering Heights, The Awakening and anything by Shakespeare. I appreciate good literature but am also no stranger to the occasional guilty pleasure like the Hunger Games, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and I am currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

My favorite kind of music to listen to is all music. I have a deep love of country music but appreciate anything that is easy to listen to or lyrics that speak to me and I can relate to. Anything that's easy to dance to is always welcome on my iPod!
